Making Waves With Waterfront Living

Posted 25 August 2023 by Helen Christie

WhatHouse? has put together a selection of waterfront homes around the country…

Homes by the water are increasingly popular, and there are many new homes available around the country located next to rivers, waterways and the coast.

Knight Frank's 2023 Waterfront report highlights the depth of the demand for such properties, with 98% of waterfront properties in London now being purchased as primary residences. The average premium for a UK waterfront property was 48% in Q2 2023, compared to non-waterfront homes, and riverside locations have a 39% premium, up from 29% in 2022. The number of waterfront property exchanges in the UK was 11% higher in the year to May compared to the five-year average.

We’ve put together a selection of waterfront homes for a range of budgets and buyers…

Powerhouse, Chelsea Waterfront (Chelsea, London)

Powerhouse, Chelsea Waterfront

Powerhouse holds a unique position on a sweeping river curve, with panoramic views across London and over the Thames, taking in a stretch of the Thames that extends from Chelsea in the West to Canary Wharf in the East. Being the last remaining river front site on this bank of the Thames means that the views are completely protected and run no risk of further construction obstructing the incredible vista in the future. Powerhouse is positioned next to a landscaped creek, and the scheme will also open up 400m of the Thames waterfront pathway to the public that has been inaccessible for the past 100 years. The development offers a collection of two- to four-bedroom homes, with prices starting from £1.7million.

Queenswater Apartments (Dumbarton)

Queenswater Apartments from Turnberry Homes is a brand new development of two-bedroom luxury apartments in a truly stunning setting by Dumbarton Rock and the River Clyde. Many apartments offer lift access and balconies so you can enjoy the breath-taking views of the rock or across the water. Open plan living spaces and large windows give a sense of space and light, adding to this luxury apartment living experience. Queenswater Apartments are conveniently situated on the waterfront with access to the walkway along the River Clyde. Nearby, there is access to Levengrove Park or Overtoun House - an ideal place to explore the wild moors, crags and woods of the Kilpatrick Hills. Prices at the development start from £199,000.

One Park Drive (Canary Wharf, London)

One Park Drive is an impressive development, standing tall against the London skyline, offering 484 one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments and penthouses, exceptionally designed within Wood Wharf, Canary Wharf’s new residential neighbourhood with views of the River Thames. Residents can enjoy the impressive facilities on offer, including a swimming and hydro pool, steam room and sauna, gym, cinema, concierge and library. Prices at One Park Drive start from £3.35m.

One Pentire (Newquay, Cornwall)

One Pentire is located in one of the most sought-after locations on the north coast of Cornwall. One Pentire will offer 74 spacious apartments, including nine penthouses, and 65 one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments. There will be underground parking for all apartments with lift access to each floor, and space for a wine bar and café-deli on the ground floor. Prices start from £335,000 for a one-bedroom apartment.

Leaside Lock (Bromley-by-Bow, London)

From Guinness Homes comes Leaside Lock, a collection of Shared Ownership homes in Bromley-by-Bow. The development sits beside the banks of the River Lea, just a three-minute walk from Bromley-By-Bow underground station. Leaside Lock will ultimately deliver 965 studios, one-, two- and three-bedroom homes. Offering riverside living without the price premium, prices for a 25% share of a two-bedroom apartment at Leaside Lock start from £122,500, with deposits starting from only £6,125.
