WhatHouse? has just launched its Location Ratings index to provide house-hunters with detailed, up-to-date scores on many different aspects of the places they want to live.

Working with data experts CLSQ, we assess the latest information to give every current new homes development a rating under several core topics, including Education and Amenities. This covers things which are vital to everyday life, whether it’s somewhere to buy groceries and other essentials, a place to enjoy leisure time and for families, an area with schooling which is easy to get to from home.

There are a number of elements which we take into account to calculate our Education and Amenities rating, including:

  • The proximity of schools and educational establishments for all ages.
  • Are there hospitals, doctors and dentists nearby, and what are the average NHS waiting times in the area?
  • Is it easy to reach shops and supermarkets?
  • Are sports and physical exercise venues close by?
  • How close are the local places of worship?

Combined, these give a comprehensive score in what to expect from the area around your potential brand new home for everyday essentials, whatever your age or the property type you are looking for.

Example ratings: Top 5 ranking developments for education and amenities Edinburgh:
