South East New Homes Round-up - The Latest New Homes For Sale

The WhatHouse? team selects the latest new build homes for sale in counties across the South East of England...

The degree to which younger people in the South East are effectively locked out of the British housing market has been unveiled in new figures from economists.

The greatest decline in home ownership in the last two decades has been among middle-income 25 to 34-year-olds, according to the Institute for Fiscal Studies – with the biggest drop seen in the South East of England.

From 1995-96, 65% of 25 to 34-year-olds owned a home, whereas just 27% did in 2015-16. "Middle earners" are defined as having take-home pay of between £22,200 and £30,600, whether as an individual or as a couple. The figures show that the proportion of these middle earners owning a home (27%) has now shifted closer to the likelihood of those with a low income (8%) than those with a high income (64%).

So, for prospective first-time buyers in the region, what are the options? Housing minister Dominic Raab has said that £45m will be invested into community projects that will help kick-start the building of thousands of new homes. In the meantime, however, purchase assistance schemes such as Help to Buy, and the removal of Stamp Duty for most first-time buyers, should help to some extent.

In our round-up below of some of the latest developments in the South East we have included options where Help to Buy is available, as well as Shared Ownership options. Then at the other end of the market we have some luxury options for upsizers who have a larger budget.
