Merseyside offers great choice of new homes for all budgets

Posted 25 April 2014

Focused around the buzzing city of Liverpool, Merseyside is a very well-connected part of the North West, offering superb public transport options across the region. It has an extensive rail network, a good bus service, and the famous ferry across the Mersey, which runs between Liverpool Pier Head, Seacombe in Wallasey, and Woodside in Birkenhead.

Alongside many urban areas there are also leafy suburbs and some semi-rural and rural locations to choose from, all within easy reach of Liverpool - and many also within easy striking distance of other key regional centres such as Southport, Preston, Chester and Manchester.

There are housing developments to suit all types of buyers, from first-time buyers on a tight budget to investors and those seeking luxury, top-end properties.

Affordable homes in Merseyside

Keepmoat has a number of developments with options for first-time buyers on a limited budget. In North Huyton, for example, Hamilton Place offers a mix of high-quality yet affordable two-bedroom homes priced from £91,995, as well as more spacious three-bedroom homes ideal for families. These form the third phase of the overall development, which is situated just five miles from Liverpool city centre.

In the large town of Birkenhead on the Wirral peninsula, just across the River Mersey from Liverpool city centre, Keepmoat has a collection of two-, three- and four-bedroom homes at St James Gate. Priced from £103,995, these homes incorporate eco-features to help save householders money, and they are situated close to leafy parks and golf courses while being just four miles from Liverpool itself.

Buy-to-let and student properties in Merseyside

Primarily targeting buy-to-let investors, The Courtyard at X1 The Quarter offers competitively-priced one- to three-bedroom apartments and three-bedroom townhouses from X1, situated just quarter of a mile from Liverpool's waterfront quarter. This developer is experienced in the buy-to-let market, having completed several other similar projects in the area, and these brand new units are due for completion in September 2014. Priced from just £33,995, with the chance to purchase parking spaces with selected units, the properties are also designed to be very low maintenance.

A similar development from X1 is X1 The Edge, offering student accommodation units priced from £54,950. Liverpool has a student population of more than 50,000 and consequently a high demand for student housing. X1 The Edge will create 231 double en suite rooms along with communal rooms and a fitness suite, all within walking distance of the University of Liverpool and Liverpool John Moores. A similar development in a neighbouring street, X1 Arndale House, has enjoyed 100% rental occupancy during the 2013/2014 academic year.

Luxury homes in Merseyside

Less than five miles from central Liverpool, in one of the city's most desirable residential areas, Macbryde Homes has created just three luxury homes at The Grove at Sandfield Park. Priced from £895,000 and situated in a secluded setting near the leafy suburb of West Derby, these homes offer five or six bedrooms with high-specification interiors and luxurious extras such as gas-fired underfloor heating and a walk-in wardrobe to the master bedroom. And for buyers with a property to sell before they can move, the housebuilder's Easy Move scheme can help speed up the process.
