Location Of The Day: Corby, Northamptonshire

Posted 27 October 2022 by Keith Osborne

The Northamptonshire town of Corby could tick all the boxes as a place to buy a brand new home...

While there will almost certainly be more to the final choice of brand new home than ‘location, location, location’, the house-hunting process can often start with what a village, town or city can offer across many aspects of life. The WhatHouse.com team is constantly looking around Britain for some of the best locations to consider purchasing a new build home.

Corby is in the north of Northamptonshire, close to the borders with Rutland and Leicestershire. From a population of around 1,300 in the early 1930s, its designation as a New Town in the 1950s and an Enterprise Zone in the 1980s has led to it now being home to over 60,000 people.

Its central England location, under an hour from a host of major towns and cities, can make it a cost-effective choice for a work commute. The opening of a new station in 2009 brought even better connectivity and it is under 75 minutes from London St Pancras, compared to around two hours by road.

For shopping and places to eat and drink, the centre of the town has lots to offer with a mix of big-brand and independent shops and supermarkets, cafés, pubs and restaurants. It also hosts a good range of useful amenities and healthcare facilities.

Vital to families, Corby offers some high-quality education for children of all ages, including Brooke Weston Academy, Corby Primary Academy and Corby Technical School among those rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted.

For leisure time, there’s a multiplex cinema, gyms, numerous sports clubs, a skate park and lots of recreation grounds and open space to enjoy. The Corby East Midlands International Pool is one of the town’s most high-profile assets and offers long and short pools for swimming/diving as well as a fun one for kids, as well as a large gym and studio. There are a number of country parks and heritage sites in the surrounding area.

‘The Poppy’‘The Poppy’ from Lodge Park Homes

If you like the sound of living in Corby, Woodland Chase, a development of 87 private properties from Lodge Park Homes, is situated in Priors Hall Park, just three miles east of the town centre. The two-, three- and four-bedroom homes have a contemporary design inside and out, with a range of layouts and a mix of two- and three-storey house types that will have broad appeal. The currently available homes have starting prices between £230,000 and £475,000. ‘The Orchid’, at £230,000, is a two-bedroom terrace house type with lounge, kitchen/dining room, cloakroom, bathroom and two double bedrooms (one with en suite). At £475,000 is ‘The Poppy’. This is a detached house and there is a show home of this type for visitors to explore. The double-fronted property has an open-plan kitchen/dining room, lounge, study, utility room, four double bedrooms (one en suite) and a family bathroom. Find out more from Lodge Park Homes.

Also in Priors Hall Park is Francis Jackson Homes’ Park View development in a central location which is a follow-up to its successful Willowhurst project at the site. Park View comprises 23 contemporary townhouses, with three-, four- and five-bedroom house types to fit a range of space requirements and budgets. The high-quality specification and materials on these energy-efficient homes includes underfloor heating (ground floor) and powder coated aluminium windows, and owners will benefit from ample parking as well as views and west-facing gardens. Right now, there are some five-bedroom homes for sale here with prices starting at £535,000.

Lovell Homes is also busy in Priors Hall Park at Redwing Square, offering a variety of two- to four-bedroom homes. ‘The Gove’ is priced at £224,950 and is an excellent choice for first-time buyers, having a kitchen/dining room, a lounge with French doors to the garden, a cloakroom, a bathroom, two double bedrooms (one with en suite) and allocated parking. ‘The Walton’, at £319,995, is a three-storey home with three double bedrooms (one en suite), a single bedroom, family bathroom, lounge and kitchen/dining room, as well as garage and driveway.
