Barratt Developments – a former WhatHouse? Housebuilder of the Year that uses its Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes brands – has a great range of different house types at its current Oxfordshire sites which are ideal for buyers on a £500,000 price budget.

River Meadow is located in scenic countryside in Stanford In The Vale, just a few miles from Faringdon and Wantage and under half-an-hour from Swindon, Didcot and Oxford. A whole range of two-, three-, four- and five-bedroom homes are being built here, set within some seven acres of green open space. Prices start at £349,995, but for our larger budget, the ‘Draycote’ might be ideal, on sale from £475,000, with the bonus of an upgraded kitchen, a choice of flooring packages and £19,000 towards your move with your choice of what that contributes too eg moving costs, Stamp Duty etc. Off the welcoming hallway are the lounge and the kitchen/ dining room, both of which have French doors to the garden. Bedroom one has an en suite, the other two bedrooms share the family bathroom. There’s a useful double-door storage cupboard off the landing too. Outside are the single detached garden and parking for two cars.

‘Brentford’The ‘Brentford’

There’s a great range of three- and four-bedroom homes for sale at Abbey Fields in Abingdon, with starting prices between £370,000 and £699,500. All residents benefit from being within walking distance of the impressive athletic, sports, gym and pool facility at Tilsley Park, and there are some excellent schools in the area too. Oxford is only 15 minutes away in the car. For our half-million-pound budget, Barratt Homes is offering a brand new release called the ‘Brentford’ at £500,000. It’s a large house type set over three floors with a kitchen/dining room, two reception rooms, three double bedrooms, bathroom, shower room and two private parking spaces.

David Wilson Homes is also building at Abbey Fields, with starting prices for the currently available three- and four-bedroom houses ranging from £445,000 to £699,950. Among them, at £500,000, is the ‘Cannington’, a three-floor terraced house type. Plot 255 has a south-facing garden from a living/dining room with glazed bay, there’s a separate kitchen, a study, another lounge and three sizeable double bedrooms, one with en suite. It has two allocated parking spaces. This house is currently offered with £25,000 towards your choice of expenses.

The Chimes is near Bicester, part of the growing Kingsmere Village development, and it has proven very popular, as it is now 90% sold. But three are some three-bedroom houses for sale below our price budget. The ‘Bloxham’ on Plot 214, from £463,995, is currently offered under the 105% Part Exchange scheme, where you’ll benefit from a bonus on the sale of your existing property. This is a link-semi-detached house with car port and private driveway. There’s a kitchen at the front of the house and a lounge/dining room at the rear, leading to the garden. All three bedrooms are generous doubles, with the largest benefitting from an en suite and walk-in storage cupboard.

The ‘Hadley’The ‘Hadley’

Nearby to here is Hemins Place @ Kingsmere, from David Wilson Homes, where residents will benefits from the wider development’s masterplan which will include new schools, sports facilities, cycle routes and a restaurant. Bicester Village retail park and Oxford are both easily reach from here. Among the two-, three- and four-bedroom homes for sale here is a new release call the ‘Hadley’. Plot 182 of this attractive detached family home is a corner plot which comes with a south-facing garden and a dual-aspect lounge. The kitchen/dining/family room also has windows on two sides, providing lots of natural light to the heart of the home. Utility room and cloakroom complete the ground floor. Two of the three bedrooms are doubles, with an en suite shower room to bedroom one. This home starts at £460,000.

If you can stretch that budget a bit, you could consider a purchase at The Pavilions in Bodicote, near Banbury. Surrounded by green space on the edge of the Cotswolds, these new homes are just two minutes from the village amenities. The ‘Ashington’ ,at £525,000, is one of two homes that are ready to move into at the development (the other is the ‘Hanwell’ at £435,000) and has been built in traditional stone, making it a stand-out corner detached property on the development. Inside, it comes with some £18,000 worth of upgrades and fittings in kitchen, flooring, lights, blinds and curtains. The kitchen has a door to the lounge, and both rooms have French doors to the garden. A separate dining room and a cloakroom complete the downstairs layout. Three of its four bedrooms are doubles, with en suite to the largest. Outside are the single garage and private parking.
