Commuters seek the quiet life in a range of new homes in East Lothian

With stretching picturesque coastlines and easy access to Edinburgh, East Lothian has long been popular with commuters to the city as well as those looking for a quieter pace of life. The diversity of people living in the area is reflected in the wide variety of new-build homes available here. No matter what their tastes, budget or family size, house-hunters looking to find a new home in East Lothian are sure to find their dream home.

CALA Homes has recently launched the first phase of properties at its Priory Meadow development in North Berwick. Located in the Glenorchy Road area of the popular seaside town, the scheme will offer a selection of three-, four- and five-bedroom family homes on completion. Currently available homes include the ‘Dewar’ house type; a five-bedroom detached villa costing £485,000. This L-shaped home features a formal lounge and a kitchen with family/dining area, both with doors to the decking area. A double garage, utility room and downstairs WC complete the ground floor. Upstairs a gallery landing leads to the five bedrooms, two of which boast en suites, and the family bathroom.

Situated in the historical market town of Musselburgh, Almond Park is a Taylor Wimpey development with a wide range of two-, three- and four-bedroom homes on the market. For example, the ‘Andrew 2’ house type is a terraced property priced from £170,000 and comprises a lounge/dining area, kitchen, cloakroom, two bedrooms and a bathroom. Being East Lothian’s largest town, Musselburgh has plenty of local amenities nearby but is also only six miles from Edinburgh making it a convenient choice for commuters to the city.

Ogilvie Homes’ Dovecote Steadings development in the village of Bolton near Haddington combines an historical building with contemporary interiors. With everything from one-bedroom cottage flats to five-bedroom steading properties, there is something here for families of all shapes and sizes. Available homes here include a four-bedroom steading conversion at £350,000. Entering the home, the hallway gives access to a spacious living room on the right while turning left leads to an open plan kitchen and dining area, a study, utility room and the master bedroom, which boasts a dressing room and en suite bathroom. The first floor contains a guest bedroom with en suite shower room, two further bedrooms and a family bathroom.

Prestonfields in Prestonpans offers a choice of one-, two-, four- or five-bedroom properties ranging from £119,995 to £290,995. The David Wilson Homes site is within walking distance to the town’s railway station and there are some excellent schools in the area for families with children. At the budget end of the scale, first-time buyers may be interested in the ‘Horkesley’ apartment type, which comprises an open-plan living and dining area, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. Alternatively, those looking to house a larger family will look towards the ‘Dee’. Priced from £290,995 this five-bedroom detached home is set over three storeys and features a formal sitting room, open-plan kitchen, dining and family area and a study.
