Retirement property for sale in North Yorkshire

North Yorkshire has bustling cities, picturesque towns and cities while 40% of the county is covered by beautiful countryside such as the Yorkshire Dales. Towns like Middlesbrough Scarborough and Harrogate have a proud heritage as well as all the services and amenities you'd expect and there are also lovely seaside towns and spectacular landscapes. North Yorkshire really does have it all and delivers a quality of life to match and even surpass many other places in the UK.

Amongst the numerous delights of North Yorkshire is its county town of York. It's one of the most historic locations you'll find with many archaeological marvels such as its Minster. It's the city that has the most complete city walls in the UK. It's home to the popular Jorvik Viking Centre and the National Railway Museum. For new build homes in York the best area is perhaps Westgate which has a number of new houses being built there. One new house development worth a special mention is The Chocolate Works built on the old site of Terry's Chocolate Factory site. It's another reflection of a city that manages to effortlessly balance the needs of today's generation whilst preserving it's rich historic culture. The market for rental properties in York also remains strong with it being home to York University.

Another town which is a star attraction of North Yorkshire is Harrogate. This location regularly comes top of quality of life polls and its very high standard of new housing is one of the reasons for this. New homes are being built in this area although you do have to be quick since new homes are usually snapped up fast. Nearby Knaresborough is another location that's effortlessly attractive with its picturesque streets and good quality of life it promises. North Yorkshire has many charming seaside towns and for many, Whitby stands out as a place that's extra special. Its dramatic cliffs and picture postcard setting has inspired many artists and writers over the years.

New homes in these areas can be quite expensive due to their remarkable settings yet with Help to Buy available on many new house developments, it gives an opening for first-time buyers as well as others who are irresistibly drawn to this part of the country. Other North Yorkshire locations that attract much interest in buying property are the coastal towns of Scarborough and Bridlington as well as the traditional market towns of Malton, Thirsk, Helmsley and Beverley.

North Yorkshire is a region that has good schools and its transport needs are served by the A1 that leads north to Scotland and south to London. Similarly, for rail services, it's served by the East Coast Main Line. A train to London or Edinburgh takes, roughly, around two hours in either direction.

  Monthly Budget
Our monthly budget search provides a monthly cost estimate for the different ownership options available to you. These range from ‘outright purchase’, ‘shared ownership’ and ‘rent’ options. As with any property purchase you should seek independent financial advice.

For outright purchase the monthly mortgage cost estimate is based on an interest only mortgage at a 5.95% annual interest rate, over 25 years with a 10% deposit.

For ‘shared ownership’ the monthly cost is based on an interest only mortgage rate of 5.95% per annum over 25 years with annual interest of 2.75% on the unsold share.

For ‘rent’ the monthly cost is based on the rental from the landlord or Build to Rent organisation who owns the property.
