Watford holds great appeal for golden triangle London commuters

Posted 10 October 2014 by Keith Osborne

Situated just 17 miles northwest of central London, Watford is a key transport hub and major regional economic player, ideally placed for business in the heart of the so-called 'golden triangle' of London, Oxford and Cambridge. With several new housing developments springing up within a 10-mile radius of Watford, professionals who have a healthy buying budget will find a number of options that offer great commuter convenience.

Watford lies within the London commuter belt, served by the suburban London Overground (LO) rail network, and has a central location in the UK motorway network – close to the M25 that rings London, and the M1 that connects London to the Midlands and Northern England. The town also boasts some attractive public spaces, such as the Green Flag Award-winning Cassiobury Park in the heart of town, which offers residents 190 acres of open space, including a popular and well-equipped children's play area.

Bovis Homes has created a contemporary new development in the popular residential area of Leavseden, contiguous with the northern suburbs of Watford. Just a few minutes' drive from the town centre, Foley Green  incorporates three- and four-bedroom properties including The Sandridge, a four-bedroom link detached property priced from £556,950, which includes a garage, a spacious sitting room with French doors to the garden, and a ground-floor study.

Nearby, close to the large village of Abbots Langley, Bellway Homes has released a new phase at Abbotswood Park, including two-bedroom apartments and two-, three-, four- and five-bedroom homes priced from £260,995 to £694,995. Ideally placed for commuters, the development offers easy access to the M25 and M1, and is just a short drive from Watford Junction Train Station – which has direct services into London Euston in 20 minutes. The development is also next to open countryside, with Leavesden Country Park only a short walk away, giving plenty of options for outdoor leisure time.

Just over eight miles from Watford and 14 miles from London, Bentley Priory is a prestigious collection of new properties from Barratt Homes, set on an historic 57-acre estate. Including two-bedroom and five-bedroom options priced from £859,950 up to £2,849,995, the properties are surrounded by impressive parkland and beautifully-restored Italian Gardens. Some of North London's top schools are nearby, alongside well-respected golf courses and exclusive leisure clubs.

Less than seven miles south west of Watford, and only accessible to buyers with a very generous budget, Taylor Wimpey has built 14 impressive four- and five-bedroom luxury homes at King's Acre (pictured). Situated in a secluded, gated setting in the desirable North London suburb of Northwood, these homes are close to sought-after schools and are priced from £1,425,000 - £1,625,000 – with more than half already sold.

Less expensive options are also available from Taylor Wimpey in the affluent Mill Hill area of North London, less than eight miles from Watford. Churchill Place offers luxury new one- to four-bedroom homes including a three-bedroom apartment priced from £475,000, situated close to green, open spaces and quick and easy transport links into the capital.
