Torbay area offers new homes buyers a family-friendly lifestyle

Home to the popular resort towns of Torquay, Paignton and Brixham, the Torbay area of Devon boasts sandy beaches, a mild climate and a whole host of leisure attractions - making it popular not only with holidaymakers, but also with house buyers looking for an active lifestyle by the coast.

The seaside town of Torquay is only 22 miles south of the county town of Exeter, 38 miles north east of Plymouth, just across the bay from the fishing port of Brixham, and next door to the town of Paignton. With numerous tourist attractions, a mild climate and several beaches to choose from, Torquay and the surrounding area are ideal for families with children. Torquay is also well-connected, with two railway stations, and the A380 on the edge of town, which connects commuters to the A38 and the M5.

Young professionals may be interested in Barratt's final release of properties at Magnolia Square, Torre Marine, a contemporary development in Torquay that incorporates one- and two-bedroom apartments priced from £119,950. With allocated parking and excellent transport links close by, the development is ideal for commuting professionals who also want to live close to the town centre, just over a mile away.

At the luxury end of the market, Bowmore Estates has worked with architects to create two spectacular contemporary homes at Casa Blanca, situated in Ilsham Marine Drive - Torquay's most desirable residential address (prices on application). With distinctive, curved exteriors revealing art deco influences, and beautiful interiors, the properties make the most of the amazing sea views with plenty of glass and spacious outdoor spaces.

In nearby Brixham, about nine miles from Torquay, well-established regional house builder Cavanna Homes has created a small development of twelve unique, contemporary three-bedroom semi-detached and four-bedroom detached homes at Seascape, priced from £265,000 to £365,000. All have balconies, many with gorgeous sea views, and others with views across the hills of Devon. Perfect for those who love the outdoors, it's just a short walk from the dramatic South West Coast Path and within easy reach of the beach.

A little inland in the historic market town of Newton Abbot, David Wilson Homes' Daracombe Gardens offers a range of beautiful four- and five-bedroom detached homes suitable for buyers with a more generous budget. Priced from £425,000 upwards, the homes enjoy country views and are within walking distance of a number of primary and secondary schools - including the popular Newton Abbot College for 11- to 18-year-olds. The town also has a good range of high street and independent stores, a golf course and driving range, several sports teams, and a leisure centre with a swimming pool.

On the fringes of Newton Abbot, Redrow has a development called The Fairways - situated close to the golf course - which incorporates two-, three- and four-bedroom homes. Blending town and country life, and likely to appeal to a wide range of buyers, homes there are priced from £319,995 upwards. The Fairways is situated in a great spot for commuters, too, with easy access to the M5 about ten miles away, and Newton Abbot Railway Station less than a mile away.
