A huge new project to bring thousands of new homes to Scotland was revealed recently as Perth and Kinross Council approved a new community to be built on the edge of Perth by Springfield Properties.
Bertha Park is a £1bn scheme that will see up to 3,000 new homes being built over the 333-hectare site. The project has been given general approval, with detailed permission for the first phase of 1,100 new homes just received, and construction is scheduled to start in 2017.
The site will see the building of a wide range of homes including those for private sale, those available under affordable homes schemes and age-exclusive properties for retirees. The 30-year build process is expected to create 2,000 jobs and will also see the creation of an area for employment opportunities, a new primary and secondary school,
Springfield transformed the former green belt site proposing a new community including 25 hectares of employment land, a host of new shops and restaurants, a new primary and secondary school and medical, leisure and community facilities.
“We are delighted with [the] decision,” says Springfield managing director, Innes Smith. “This is a big step forward in a 30-year project and the result of five years of planning and design in partnerships with Perth and Kinross Council.
