Scotland new homes round-up – the pick of today’s new build properties

Posted 10 June 2016 by Keith Osborne

The WhatHouse? team picks its favourite new homes developments in some of Scotland's most popular spots for homebuyers...

A huge new project to bring thousands of new homes to Scotland was revealed recently as Perth and Kinross Council approved a new community to be built on the edge of Perth by Springfield Properties.

Bertha Park is a £1bn scheme that will see up to 3,000 new homes being built over the 333-hectare site. The project has been given general approval, with detailed permission for the first phase of 1,100 new homes just received, and construction is scheduled to start in 2017.

The site will see the building of a wide range of homes including those for private sale, those available under affordable homes schemes and age-exclusive properties for retirees. The 30-year build process is expected to create 2,000 jobs and will also see the creation of an area for employment opportunities, a new primary and secondary school,

Springfield transformed the former green belt site proposing a new community including 25 hectares of employment land, a host of new shops and restaurants, a new primary and secondary school and medical, leisure and community facilities.

“We are delighted with [the] decision,” says Springfield managing director, Innes Smith. “This is a big step forward in a 30-year project and the result of five years of planning and design in partnerships with Perth and Kinross Council. We have set our sights on delivering an exceptional place for people to live and work and we are excited to be bringing Springfield’s award-winning homes to Perth. We are on track to start building in 2017, initially creating around 450 new jobs and supporting many more.”

Here are our favourite current new homes in Scotland across a range of budgets:

Kinnear Road in Inverleith, Edinburgh (Queensberry Properties)

Kinnear RoadTwo-thirds of the properties here have already been snapped up, with just three of the nine remaining for sale in this affluent and attractive area. The development mixes restored conversions within a Grade B listed property and adjacent striking new build apartments.

The two converted apartments for sale there range in size from 1,442 sq ft to 1,458 sq ft and feature hardwood oak flooring throughout the main living areas.  The two-bedroom new build apartment is within a blonde sandstone building designed by award-winning architects, Morgan McDonnell.

Grace Brownlow, sales and marketing director of Queensberry Properties, says: “We’re really proud of the Kinnear Road development which again underlines our strategy to create memorable top end developments within the capital. Kinnear Road offers a chance to secure a highly desirable yet sensibly priced ‘must-have’ property for homeowners or investors in one of the most exclusive areas in Edinburgh.”
