East Anglia and Scotland were the only areas to see some modest growth in new buyer enquiries this April, according to the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) - while all other areas of the UK saw a fall in interest.
Experts say the general cool down can be partially explained by the 3% stamp duty increase, which was introduced on 1 April, and includes buy-to-let investors. They say many investors accelerated their property search in a bid to beat the April deadline, bringing forward transactions which may otherwise have taken place later this year.
Meanwhile, however, the popular East Anglia region appears to remain immune to this virtually countrywide cool down – continuing to witness a small growth in buyer enquiries.
