The Best Market Town New Homes In Lancashire

Our latest look at the best places to buy a brand new home in some of Lancashire’s best-known and best-loved historic market towns…

Clitheroe

Also on the edge of the Forest of Bowland is Clitheroe, a town well served by independent shops and national brands, and a number of banks and supermarkets. There are some high-quality schools including the ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted-rated Royal Grammar School and independent Moorland School. The railway station has regular services to Manchester and Blackburn and the nearby A59 offers a convenient rout to Preston and Skipton.

David Wilson Homes and Barratt Homes are both building new homes at Waddow Heights in the west of the town. David Wilson Homes’ four-bedroom houses range from £420,000 to £445,000 and Plot 160, the ‘Millford’ from £440,000, is currently available with up to £22,500 towards your deposit and a flooring/kitchen upgrade. Barratt Homes is over 95% sold at its part of this development but still has a few three- and four-bedroom houses for sale priced between £285,000 and £433,500. Snugg Homes is offering some Shared Ownership homes in this area, at Waddow View, with two- and three-bedroom houses priced from £45,750 for a 25% share (full market value £183,000).

Persimmon Homes is also busy building new houses just a few minutes from the town centre at its development Hawthorne Farm. With a few plots just released for sale, prices currently starting at £275,000 for the available three- and four-bedroom properties. Find out more about Hawthorne Farm.

To the south of town, Miller Homes has a development called Montague Place. The two-, three- and four-bedroom houses for sale here right now start at £239,995. Buyers should look out for a number of special deals here on some plots, including a cash lump-sum of up to £15,000, a 5% deposit contribution or Part Exchange. Find out more about Montague Place.

In a village called Barrow, only a few minutes’ drive from Clitheroe, housebuilders are offering a whole range of homes for house-hunters in the area to consider. You can check out Barratt Homes at The Brooks, Plumlife at Oak Leigh Gardens and Laurus Homes at Whalley Manor.

Longridge

A few miles from Preston, Longridge grew as a result of local quarry works and its stone is used in numerous older buildings in the town. Residents have a good range of shops and amenities here, including education from pre-school to high school. Blackburn and Preston can both be reached in under half-an-hour. For pleasure, there’s a local golf course, football club, playing fields and the Forest of Bowland AONB.

There are currently a couple of opportunities to ‘part buy-part rent’ in this area thanks to the Home Reach scheme from housing provider heylo. If you fit the qualifying criteria, with this scheme you can purchase a share of your new home (usually starting at 50%) and pay rent on the rest. From £125,000 for a 50% share (full market price £250,000) at Inglewhite Meadow to the north of the town, the ‘Archford’ has a lounge, a kitchen/diner with French doors to the garden, two double bedrooms (one en suite), a single bedroom, family bathroom and private parking. Also at this development, for full market price, David Wilson Homes has three- and four-bedroom houses from £245,00 with a host of special offers and an option of Part Exchange on some plots. Alston Grange is on Preston Road amongst the rolling fields of the Ribble Valley. Through Home Reach, the three-bedroom ‘Holmewood’ is available with this scheme, priced at £117,498 for a 50% share (full market price £234,995). It has a kitchen/diner, separate lounge and an en suite to bedroom one. On the open market here, from Tilia Homes, prices start at £319,995 for the ‘Chelmsford’, a four-bedroom/two-bathroom detached home with integral garage and additional parking spaces. Poulton-le-Fylde

Located between the coast and the River Wyre, the town grew in important in the 19th and 20th centuries and while its trade role is no longer here, it remains a popular place to live thanks to a thorough variety of shops and services, well-rated schools and regular railway services to the likes of Blackpool, Liverpool and Manchester. Blackpool is also just a 15-minute drive away. Housebuilders are very busy here to cater for strong demand.

Moorfield Park is part of a large development bringing a whole range of homes to the eastern outskirts of town and Persimmon has a range of three- and four-bedroom homes for sale currently priced between £220,000 to £320,000. As well as the choice of properties, there are also some excellent initiatives on selected plots to help first-time buyers and existing homeowners. The ‘Barnwood Drive Through’ is a distinctive design with en suite to two of its four bedrooms, a utility room off the kitchen/dining room, French doors from the living room to the garden, and a drive-through car port at the rear. There are a couple of other developments close by. Jones Homes’ Moorfield Park is bringing two-, three-, four- and five-bedroom homes to the area and is in its final phase of construction. are several brand new homes for sale here from £204,995 to £495,995, catering for a many budgets. The housebuilder runs its own Agency Assist and Part Exchange deals to save buyers money. Snugg Homes is offering Shared Ownership properties at Moorfield Park, with prices from £44,813 (based on 25% share, full market price £179,250)

For buyers of 70-years-old, there’s to final opportunity to purchase a brand new apartment at Crocus Court, from WhatHouse? Award-winning specialist developer McCarthy Stone. The secure private property is complemented by excellent communal facilities and the ability to have tailor-made care service if required. House-hunters in the area can check out other developments in this area too. One is called Tithe Gardens, from Story Homes, with a variety of four-bedroom house type from £294,995 to £433,995. Another, from Seddon Homes, is Roman Heights where three- and four-bedroom houses are currently priced between £245,000 and £383,000.

Accrington

Over 35,000 people live in Accrington, situated between Blackburn and Burnley, both within very easy reach thanks to the M65 passing by the outskirts of town. This and the A66/M66 make commuting to Preston and Manchester easy from here too. There are direct rail services from the town’s railway station to the likes of Blackpool, Preston, Leeds and York. Accrington has a number of schools rated ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, while everyone benefits from the selection of shops, amenities and places to relax.

On the southern edge of town, Willows Park is a development of 46 homes and with all the four-bedroom units sold out now, there are still two- and three-bedroom options. Depending on the stage of construction, buyers can put the personal touch to their home through a host of options and upgrades. In the western part of town, just a few minutes’ walk from Church & Oswaldtwistle station, and only a mile from the centre of Accrington, Keepmoat Homes is underway of the first phase of Acorn View with 29 two-, three- and four-bedroom properties. Current properties range from £144,995 to £190,995, starting with a two-bedroom semi-detached house called ‘The Leven’ up to ‘The Stratton’, which is a three-storey, three-bedroom, two-bathroom property. Garstang

Situated halfway between Preston and Lancaster, this ancient town has plenty to please its residents today with a variety of shops and services, sports and leisure facilities, and a good choice of places to go for a drink and a meal. There are a couple of ‘Outstanding’ primary schools as well as other ‘Good’ schools for all ages.

To the south-west of the town, Heritage Park is an impressive collection of three-, four- and five-bedroom houses that could be perfect for all types of buyer, with a variety of semi-detached and detached home types. Thanks to Home Reach, there’s a great opportunity for people to get on the property ladder from £114,248 (based on 50% share, full market price £228,495) with the ‘Burlington’ a three-bedroom, two-bathroom house with a rear kitchen/dining room and a bay-windowed lounge, as well as private parking.
