Clitheroe
Also on the edge of the Forest of Bowland is Clitheroe, a town well served by independent shops and national brands, and a number of banks and supermarkets. There are some high-quality schools including the ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted-rated Royal Grammar School and independent Moorland School. The railway station has regular services to Manchester and Blackburn and the nearby A59 offers a convenient rout to Preston and Skipton.

To the south of town, Miller Homes has a development called Montague Place. The two-, three- and four-bedroom houses for sale here right now start at £239,995. Alston Grange
Longridge
A few miles from Preston, Longridge grew as a result of local quarry works and its stone is used in numerous older buildings in the town. Residents have a good range of shops and amenities here, including education from pre-school to high school. Blackburn and Preston can both be reached in under half-an-hour. For pleasure, there’s a local golf course, football club, playing fields and the Forest of Bowland AONB.

Located between the coast and the River Wyre, the town grew in important in the 19th and 20th centuries and while its trade role is no longer here, it remains a popular place to live thanks to a thorough variety of shops and services, well-rated schools and regular railway services to the likes of Blackpool, Liverpool and Manchester. Blackpool is also just a 15-minute drive away. Housebuilders are very busy here to cater for strong demand.

Accrington
Over 35,000 people live in Accrington, situated between Blackburn and Burnley, both within very easy reach thanks to the M65 passing by the outskirts of town. This and the A66/M66 make commuting to Preston and Manchester easy from here too. There are direct rail services from the town’s railway station to the likes of Blackpool, Preston, Leeds and York. Accrington has a number of schools rated ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, while everyone benefits from the selection of shops, amenities and places to relax.

Garstang
Situated halfway between Preston and Lancaster, this ancient town has plenty to please its residents today with a variety of shops and services, sports and leisure facilities, and a good choice of places to go for a drink and a meal.
