St George, a proud member of the Berkeley Group, has launched its latest one-bedroom Showhome called ‘The Boheme’ at Grand Union in Alperton. Curated by interior design practice Thirteen Interior Design, the new design features vibrant colours and bold designs to reflect how individuality and experience is incorporated into living spaces. Each piece of furniture and artwork has been carefully chosen to add depth and character to the overall ambiance.
Situated close to Stonebridge Park station on the Bakerloo line, Grand Union is a 22-acre vibrant new canalside neighbourhood by St George. Located in Alperton, close to Wembley, the 3,350-home development already has an abundance of amenities for residents to enjoy, including a two-lane bowling alley, rooftop gardens, entertainment room, residents’ lounge, Anytime Fitness gym, community hub and a local operator Crepes + Coffee serving hot drinks from the anchored canalboat PAVO.
Creating a memorable showroom experience
The Thirteen Interior Design team meticulously selected each unique piece of artwork, furniture, textile and accessory to bring personality to the home.
Rather than using overly co-ordinated sets of furniture, the living room features carefully selected vintage bistro-style side tables, positioned next to a bespoke violet velvet sofa made in North London, bar stools from Vaunt and a modern angular floor lamp. The arrangement evokes the ambiance of a home full of cherished trinkets accumulated over a lifetime of experiences.
Lois Street, Creative Director and Co-founder at Thirteen Interior Design, commented: “Interior design is moving away from fast trends where ‘this is in, and this is out’. Today’s consumers are conscientious and want to buy and collect things to treasure and keep. They want homes that express and reflect their lived experience, and this is achieved through the slow curation of pieces
“We wanted the Grand Union Showhome to feel eclectic and feature quality pieces each chosen for their unique properties, which work well together to contribute to the overall character of a room. People see their interiors as a reflection of themselves and their identity, and it is something that today’s conscious consumers care very deeply about when choosing items for their homes. They place value in the craftsmanship of bespoke pieces, as well as knowing that they have been responsibly sourced. The Showhome at Grand Union reflects this growing movement and we’ve worked hard to curate a completely unique space.”
Other bespoke elements of the home include a decorative trim sourced from a specialist haberdashery, which has been added to the handmade velvet curtains, as well as a one off media unit designed by Thirteen Interior Design and made by SK Interior Solutions, finished in Farrow & Ball ‘French Gray’. Ambient feature pendant lights add warmth and intimacy to the spaces.
Art pieces by fashion illustrator Robson Stannard and contemporary painter June Wei complete the room, providing a modern twist.
On entering the bedroom, your eyes are immediately drawn to the centrepiece of the room – Flow a one-of-a-kind artwork created by artist James Choots in partnership with Thirteen Interior Design which covers the wall behind the bed.
Choots is well-known for his mural work, with pieces on walls across London’s East End, Barbados and Sydney, and each artwork is designed to uniquely complement its surroundings.
The piece at the Grand Union Showhome draws on the colours used throughout the home and features thick, vibrant swatches of paints in red, orange, blue and green hues. The effect is evocative of the dappled surface of the canal water flowing outside.
The piece is called ‘Flow’ to reflect this, as well as the loose flow state Choots needed to be in to create something abstract and free. In Choots’ signature medium, he has used spray paint to give texture to the background, bringing a dynamism and sense of rhythm to the overall installation. The bed in this room is also bespoke and made in North London.
Beyond the central focal point, Thirteen Interior Design has skilfully incorporated soft fabrics and elegant gold accents to create a space that exudes luxurious tranquillity. Raw silk wallpaper by Zoffany and curtains made from Vintage Linen Natural by Warwick bring a natural base tone to the room – creating a private refuge from the excitement of the living room.
The open-plan apartment is complete with dual-aspect views of the Grand Union Canal and the landscaped boulevard, as well as floor to ceiling windows, timber effect flooring throughout, built-in wardrobes and a terrace with waterside views.
James Nicholson, Regional Sales & Marketing Director at St George, commented: “Grand Union is a thriving neighbourhood with an ever-growing community. It is set around ample amenities and public spaces which enable our residents to live life in a way that works best for them.
“Whether it’s the convenience of dropping their children at Peapods Nursery before work or the perk of grabbing a quick snack from Crepes+Coffee, at St George we create spaces that celebrate and support different lifestyles. This is no different when it comes to designing our new Showhomes. From the architecture to the landscaping, we have always prioritised best-in-class design that is tailored to the needs of our residents so it is incredibly exciting that, together with Thirteen Interior Design, we have created a Showhome that reflects that.”
Once complete, Grand Union will have 14 acres of open space playing host to a canalside piazza with cafés and restaurants, an amphitheatre, landscaped gardens, wildlife meadows, and pathways, creating a unique waterside destination.
Prices for one-bedroom homes in Waterview House currently start from £459,000 and are ready to move into from October 2024. View the development and consider visiting this eclectic showroom.
