Levelling Up To A New Home At Uttoxeter Development
Posted 24 January 2024 by
Helen ChristieJoanne Plant, 51, and Nigel Woolley, 55, hadn’t considered a three-storey home when looking to progress on the property ladder, but one viewing was all it took to change their minds as they moved to Olive Park, a development in Uttoxeter from WhatHouse? Award-winning developer David Wilson Homes.
The couple, a planner at JCB and a caster at Armitage Shanks respectively, moved into their new home with their son, Jay, 18, and their Shih Tzu, Alfie, and are now reaping the benefits of a home across three floors.
Joanne says: “At first, a three-storey home wasn’t what we were going for. When you walked in, it was amazing how big it was. So well-designed, and it made our minds up. When you think of a three-storey home, you think it’s compact and not much room. I can only vouch for David Wilson Homes, but the moment you walk through the door, you really notice the size of the rooms. Karen (sales adviser) told us to have a look at a show home on another site and asked us to trust her on it. As soon as we saw it, we thought it was fantastic and it suited our needs.”
Having viewed a four-bedroom Hereford style home at David Wilson Homes’ now sold out Bentley Fields development, the family moved into the same property in the Olive Park community, located on Dowling Road.
Joanne and Nigel wanted a property that allowed them to live comfortably and, with Jay studying for his A-Levels at Denstone College, they needed a home that gave him independence.
Joanne continues: “Jay has his privacy, and his own bathroom upstairs. He has the whole top floor which helps him for studying. He’s 18, so he’s an adult now and our set-up works. If he’s got his friends round, he’s got his independence upstairs. Even if you’re a family with smaller children, there are two rooms upstairs which are a good size. If you’ve got two children aged 10 or 12, they can have their friends round and it’s not invading your time as an adult.”
Prior to their move to Olive Park, the family were living in a three-bedroom property in Rugeley, one which they had called home for 16 years.
Equity from the previous property helped them to purchase their new home, and they bought off-plan which meant they secured their move before the house was built.
Joanne says: “Buying off-plan and watching our home be built was something special. I used to come here every few weeks and take photos, and later on we can look back on that. It was so exciting.”
With a larger home, Joanne and Nigel expected higher bills but found this wasn’t the case. They praised the insulation and the windows for keeping the house warm, even in the colder weather.
Having known Uttoxeter well through work before the move, the family are happy to now call it home.
Joanne adds: “It’s great here; we love Uttoxeter. The people are really nice, and there’s a bus service that has begun now more people have moved in. When we had a look at the plan for Olive Park itself, we were quite impressed and we can’t wait until it’s finished to see everything once it’s matured. It’ll be a beautiful community.”
There is currently a selection of two-, three- and four-bedroom homes available at Olive Park with prices starting from £112,500.
