Feature Development – The Courts, Banbury, Oxfordshire

Posted 2 March 2021 by Keith Osborne

This Talbot Homes development offers a range of apartments in a converted Magistrates Courts building in the town centre…

Talbot Homes is converting a 1930s period building to offer a range of apartments, named The Courts, in the popular Oxfordshire market town of Banbury.

The 23 one- and two-bedroom homes, set over three floors, benefit from a central location on the doorstep of the town’s host of a lively mix of independent and big-brand shops and a range of places to eat and drink. Banbury is undergoing regeneration, with its CQ2 waterfront shopping centre featuring restaurants and bars, a 10-screen cinema, a 117-room hotel, supermarket and parking.

Residents at The Courts will benefit from onsite private parking with electric charging points, cycle storage and communal gardens offering a peaceful and tranquil green space. Prices are all well below the price threshold of the new Help to Buy scheme which is being offered here.

One-bedroom units start at £160,000 and illustrate what a variety of different layouts have been used in the conversion. Apartment 7 is at the front of the building on the ground floor and offers 449 sq ft of living space. Benefitting from its own private entrance, off the hallway are an open-plan kitchen/dining/living area, a family bathroom, store cupboard and a large master bedroom with original feature windows ensuring plenty of light. Alternatively, for £210,000, Apartment 15 is on the first floor is considerably larger, at 743 sq ft. It’s also at the front of the block, above the main entrance, and has a long bedroom with plenty of room for storage and furniture, and a large open-plan living/dining area with plenty of light from two original feature windows.

The CourtsOn the top floor, Apartment 23 is a 917-sq-ft at £270,000. The hallway leads to the open-plan kitchen/dining/living room, which features an island sink/worktop. Through this room is another hallway off which is a large storage cupboard, a bathroom and two double bedrooms, with an en suite shower room to one of them. The bedrooms and living room all have roof lights.

Four homes at the rear on the ground floor have their own private outdoor space. One example, at £275,000, is Apartment 11. It’s 833 sq ft of space incorporates two large bedrooms, with an en suite shower room to bedroom one, and off the hallway is a storage cupboard and the bathroom. The main open-plan room has kitchen units at one end and at the other, French doors which open out to a private terrace.

Whichever one you opt for, there’s an equally good specification to each home here. Kitchens are a contemporary handleless style in charcoal matt with marble-effect worktops and a range of built-in appliances including induction hob, fridge-freezer and dishwasher. There’s wood-effect flooring to reception rooms and hallways, and each bedroom is fully carpetted. Bathrooms have white sanitaryware with matt-black fittings along with Porcelanosa tiling to walls and floors. Buyers can ask Talbot Homes about fitted wardrobes as an upgrade. All properties are wired for technology for working from home.
