Helen ChristieThis year, Davidsons Homes opened the doors to a brand new show home in Morton...
We spoke to Stephanie King, sales director for Davidsons Homes, for a guide to the very special five-bedroom Newstead…
Stephanie says: “We pride ourselves on the design of our homes, both inside and outside, but we really feel we’ve outdone ourselves with the Newstead at Morton. The interior design throughout reflects the semi-rural location of the site, bringing in the verdant greens and beautiful plants that can be seen in the fields surrounding Padley Wood View. Our first visitors all gave us glowing feedback on the Newstead, which was fantastic to receive. We’re looking forward to welcoming many more people over the coming weeks.”
Void/dining room

“The centrepiece and unequivocal talking point of the home is the pretty tree covered with twinkling fairy lights, making the most of the double height vaulted ceiling which stretches from the dining area right to the balcony on the first floor. It’s a stunning, light and airy space with deep blue and dusky gold walls perfectly framing the tree. Not only is the tree a wonderful statement, it also provides a light source above the dining table, which we’ve kept in shades of minimal white, to make sure the focus is up above.”

Living room

“The bespoke locally manufactured cabinetry is the centre piece for this room, with the softer pastel colour palette of the room allowing it to take centre stage. The built-in shelving ensures the living room remains calming and clutter free with exposed and concealed elements providing a home for everything. Ornate light fittings cast patterns of shadows around the room, and more plants by the French doors carry on our theme of bringing the outside in.”
Upstairs landing

“An upstairs landing doesn’t just have to be a throughway, as we’ve shown here. Our plant theme is (literally!) reflected in the circular mirror, while gym equipment gives a handy place to work out, without losing space in one of the bedrooms. One of my favourite decoration choices in this space is the colour blocking to the walls and ceiling. Ceilings don’t always have to be painted white, especially not when they are curved or have a more interesting shape, as ours does here. The soft grey on the ceiling, which then comes all the way down the wall, makes the room feel more like a secure cocoon than it would if it was painted in a starker colour. We love being able to show these more creative design choices to prospective buyers to inspire them when it comes to decorating their own blank canvas.
Children’s bedroom

“In this bedroom we’ve really had some fun bringing natural elements into the interior design. Beautiful leaf-patterned wallpaper offsets the wooden headboard, home here to ‘Spike’ our hedgehog. Bedside cabinets which are actually built on to the walls are not only practical for housing books and a bedside lamp, they also save on valuable floor space – essential with an adventurous child. A soft tactile grey throw is pretty and welcoming, while linen in shades of white, dusky pink and forest green is perfect for snuggling up into with a bedtime story.”
First bedroom

“Glamour is the name of the game here, with a striking Art Deco-style light fitting and ornate wallpaper stealing the show. All the soft furnishings here are plush and soft, making the strong theme extremely liveable and welcoming too. Either side of the bed, a bedside table becomes a small dressing area, faced with a beautiful oval mirror. You’ll also notice that the colours from the headboard and the cushions are carried through from the void/dining area downstairs which can be viewed from the adjoining balcony, creating continuity throughout the house.”
