Homes Along The Boat Race Route

Posted 3 April 2019 by Helen Christie

WhatHouse? takes a look at some beautiful new homes available for sale along the route of the famous Oxford vs Cambridge rowing race...

The annual Oxford vs Cambridge rowing race will see the prestigious universities battling it out for ownership of the cup.

The course route stretches between Putney and Mortlake in south west London, and is 6.8km long. This route was first used for The Boat Race in 1845, and the races are rowed upstream, but timed to start on the incoming “flood” tide, so the crews are rowing with the fastest possible current. The Boat Race takes place on Sunday 7 April 2019, with The Women’s Boat Race beginning at 2:13pm, and The Men’s Boat Race starting at 3:10pm.

There are some great spots for spectators to watch the race along the Thames bankside, but there are several new developments in prime viewing positions, giving residents the best, uninterrupted views in south London…

Boat Race House (Sheikh Holdings and Ashbury & Bloom)

Boat Race House (Sheikh Holdings/Ashbury & Bloom)Putting residents in pole position for the final stretch of the Oxford-Cambridge Boat Race, Boat Race House is a boutique collection of 16 one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments overlooking the race’s finishing line. For sale through Featherstone Leigh, the luxury apartments on the banks of the Thames in Mortlake offer residents an unbeatable vantage during the race. A rowing theme runs through the development, with race memorabilia decorating the communal entrance hall, and nautical colours inspiring the interior design.

Part of the joint venture between Sheikh Holdings and Ashbury & Bloom are two luxurious penthouse apartments, each occupying half of the top floor. Each apartment features an expansive open-plan living room with terrace overlooking the Thames, whilst master bedrooms feature walk-in wardrobes and sleek en-suite bathrooms.

Malcolm Hall, Manager of Land and New Homes at Featherstone Leigh, comments: “Opportunities to live on the finishing line of such a prestigious sporting event do not come around often, yet what makes Boat Race House so special is its star attraction all year round. The exemplar finish and superb Thames positioning make these homes far more than a gimmick for race day; in contrast to the pandemonium of the race, the riverside setting is a beautifully tranquil place the rest of the year. Boat Race House is an ideal balance for residents who want a peaceful home on the Thames, but enjoy getting in on the action every so often.”

Boat Race House (Sheikh Holdings/Ashbury & Bloom)Boat Race House is conveniently positioned moments from Mortlake High Street, where a row of shops, cafes and restaurants provide all the necessities. A five-minute drive away, picturesque Richmond Village has a wide variety of high-street outlets and numerous green spaces, such as Richmond Park and Kew Gardens. Meanwhile, having the Thames on your doorstep provides a scenic exercise space enabling residents inspired by the Boat Race to take up rowing themselves.

Mortlake station is under 10 minutes by foot, where trains to Waterloo take 23 minutes. Residents can also take the Thames Clipper directly to Canary Wharf, whilst Heathrow Airport is just 13 miles away.

Prices start from £485,000.
