The Best New Homes And Places To Live In Lancashire

Posted 7 October 2022 by Keith Osborne

We take a look at the best places to live in Lancashire and some of the best current new homes for sale there…

The WhatHouse? team focuses on some of the best places to live in Lancashire, and the range of high-quality brand new homes currently available to buy there.

Rossendale

Rossendale is a district between Blackburn and Rochdale, about 19 miles north of Manchester city centre, comprising a number of towns and villages and featuring a scenic valley around the River Irwell. The countryside, combined with good road links in the A56 and M65 nearby, make is a popular way to combine a rural feel with great connectivity to major towns and cities.

Hurstwood Homes is building a great range of house types in a traditional architecture inspired style at Newchurch Meadows. Located less than a mile from the centre of Rawtenstall, the development has a number of high-specification three-, four- and five-bedroom properties to choose from, with prices starting at £525,000. One of them is called the ‘Juniper’, from £545,000. This was our Home of the Day a few weeks ago and there’s still an opportunity to purchase one of these detached houses which come with an integral garage, four bedrooms (one en suite), generous open-plan kitchen/dining family room and a lounge with feature fireplace. The hamlet of Loveclough is on the northern fringe of Rossendale, four miles from Rawtenstall. It’s the countryside setting for the appropriately named development The Foothills, from Hollins Homes. Externally, the three-, four- and five-bedroom houses here are in a contemporary twist on local style, and it’s thorough modern in design and specification inside. Plot 6 is a great example of the available homes, being a detached four-bedroom house with integral garage. Called ‘The Bronte’, the heart of this home is the kitchen/dining/family room with opens out through bifold doors to the rear garden. There’s a utility room, and a separate lounge, while upstairs, the spacious main bedroom comes with en suite shower room and the other three bedrooms can share the family bathroom. This house currently come with free flooring and turf. Prices at the development currently start at £414,995. Find out more from Hollins Homes.

Longridge

A few miles from Preston, Longridge grew as a result of local quarry works and its stone is used in numerous older buildings in the town. Residents have a good range of shops and amenities here, including education from pre-school to high school. Blackburn and Preston can both be reached in under half-an-hour. For pleasure, there’s a local golf course, football club, playing fields and the Forest of Bowland AONB.

Home Reach is available here, a great opportunity to ‘part buy-part rent’ which will appeal to house-hunters with a limited budget and mortgage. At The Sandpipers, there are three- and four-bedroom homes in an attractive brick style here with prices starting at just £99,840 for a 50% share (full market price from £199,680), which would require a deposit from under £5,000. ‘The Larches’ is a three-bedroom house type with private parking for two cars, a kitchen/dining room and separate lounge. A larger house is ‘The Ashton’, from £132,500 (full market value from £265,000). The kitchen/dining room has a utility room and there’s a lounge, two double bedrooms (on with en suite), two single bedroom, family bathroom and private driveway.

Clitheroe

Also on the edge of the Forest of Bowland is Clitheroe, a town well served by independent shops and national brands, and a number of banks and supermarkets. There are some high-quality schools including the ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted-rated Royal Grammar School and independent Moorland School. The railway station has regular services to Manchester and Blackburn and the nearby A59 offers a convenient rout to Preston and Skipton.

David Wilson Homes and Barratt Homes are both building new homes at Waddow Heights in the west of the town and they are both hosting a Part Exchange event on the weekend of 29/30 October. David Wilson Homes’ four-bedroom houses range from £420,000 to £447,500 and Plot 150, the ‘Millford’ at £433,950, is currently available with an upgraded kitchen and £10,000 towards your move. There’s a similar offer on Barratt Homes’ Home of the Week, the ‘Woodbury’, which starts at £287,500 and is ready to move into by Christmas.

Barrow

Barrow is a growing small village between Clitheroe and Whalley, just off the A59, which along with a number of bus routes, makes it a well-connected place in the Ribble Valley. Young families will also be attracted by the primary school, which is rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted.

There’s a chance to ‘part buy-part rent’ here too, thanks to Home Reach at Clover Meadows. When finished, this development will comprise a real mix of properties with from one to four bedrooms, which will attract a diverse range of home-seekers. Right now, the popular buying scheme is available on the semi-detached ‘Pendle’, which could make a perfect first home. At 50% share starts from £122,498 (based on full market value from £244,996), which would require a minimum 5% deposit from £6,125. The kitchen is at the front, and the living/dining room at the rear leads to the garden. Two of the three bedrooms are doubles and a bathroom completes the top floor. There are private parking spaces in front of the house.

For buyers seeking 10% ownership, Barratt Homes’ The Brooks is already 65% sold but still offers a great variety of two-, three- and four-bedroom houses. Starting prices range from £238,000 to £460,000. Barratt’s Home of the Week here is the ‘Alderney’, which is a detached four-bedroom house with garage and private parking. Currently priced at £420,000, if it is reserved by 31 October 2022 it comes with upgraded kitchen and luxury flooring. It’s an impressive L-shaped home with kitchen/family room, lounge, dining room and three of its bedrooms are doubles, with the one of them having an en suite shower room.

In nearby Whalley, a village with its own shops, places to eat and drink, some well-respected schools, play areas and an active Village Hall. It also has the bonus of a railway station. Laurus Homes is offering a good variety of two-, three- and four-bedroom house types at Whalley Manor, with prices range from £246,495 to £535,995. Top-of-the-range right now is the ‘Chelsea’ on Plot 21. This double-fronted house has a spacious lounge and a separate open-plan kitchen/dining room off which is a useful utility room. There’s also a study, perfect for anyone home working. Three of the four bedrooms are doubles, with bedroom one coming with en suite. The top floor is completed by the family bathroom.
