South-east of the centre of the capital, the London Borough of Lewisham has a diverse population of around 300,000. It has many historic suburbs and also provides a good range of useful amenities and fun things to do.

Named London Borough of Culture for 2022, it hosted nearly 700 events over the year for an audience of all ages and backgrounds. The council is inviting residents to take part in the Lewisham 2030 scheme to help with an agenda for everything from education and equality to economics and the environment.

The ‘capital’ of the borough, Lewisham is home to about 60,000 people who benefit from the impressive assets of the neighbourhood, with a major shopping centre, public service and leisure facilities and its excellent connectivity to the rest of the borough and beyond thanks to an exceptional array of bus, National Rail and DLR services. Over the past two decades, this area has benefited from significant investment and regeneration.

Just a seven-minute walk from the station is Square Roots Lewisham, a brand new development of 141 one, two and three-bedroom apartments and two-bedroom duplexes for sale through Shared Ownership. Located on the southern banks of the River Thames, Deptford was transformed when Henry VIII established the dockyard there and it grew to become a major shipbuilding port with connections to Sir Francis Drake and Captain James Cook. With one of London’s most-admired street markets and a real variety of cultural and community facilities, there has been lots of regeneration throughout Deptford with further plans to redevelop the Convoys Wharf riverside area with 3,500 new homes and public realm spaces. According to the PA Housing website, these homes are currently available to people who live and or work in the Royal Borough of Greenwich and have a joint household income of no more than £59,810. Ladywell is an area between Lewisham and Catford and admired for its character, with some historic buildings, good selection of shops and pubs, and the large and attractive green space of Ladywell Fields, which has the River Ravensbourne running through it, plenty of foot and cycle paths, tennis courts and play areas, and the Ladywell Arena athletics track. Located in Zone 3, Ladywell station is served by regular services into Charing Cross and London Bridge (one stop/10 minutes away).
