City & Country, based in Essex, won the blue riband Housebuilder of the Year title, as well as Gold for Best Medium Housebuilder.

“At City & Country, our passion is for quality design, quality architecture and craftsmanship, whether on heritage or new build sites. Our most powerful motivation is the constant pursuit of excellence and the continuous improvement in every part of the business,” said chairman Tim Sargeant.

Best Large Housebuilder Gold went to the Berkeley Group who also won Gold for Best Apartment, while the Best Small Housebuilder top accolade was shared by Galion and Quinn Homes. Ballymore’s The Brentford Project picked up two Golds for Best Mixed-Use Development and Best Regeneration Scheme.

Other Gold winners were Dandara Living (Best Build to Rent Developer), Churchill Living (Best Retirement Home Developer), Square Roots, London Square (Best Starter Home), Q Developments (Best House), Earlswood Homes (Best Luxury House) Redrow (Best Energy Efficient Home), Hutchison Property Group (Best Renovation), Folkestone Harbour & Development Company (Best Development), Wates and Cardiff Council (Best Partnership Scheme), Altin Homes (Best Luxury Development), Greencore Homes (Best Sustainable Development), Robertson Homes (Best Interior Design), Barratt (Best Exterior Design and Places for People (Best Placemaking).

“It was a magnificent celebration of the very best new homes in Britain. The quality of the entries, yet alone the winners, was quite exceptional – testimony to industry excellence, with some great housebuilders and developments just missing out on awards this year,” said Rupert Bates, editorial director of WhatHouse? and Show House magazine.

“Once again, the What House? Awards, now in their 44th year, were the day the new homes flag flies highest. Many congratulations to all the winners and a big thank you to all our sponsors and judges and everybody who attended the biggest day in the housebuilding calendar.”
