With a population of over a quarter-of-a-million, Hull combines its role as a trade port with many others, being a base for numerous national and international company offices, shopping centres and retails parks, as well as a university and a host of sport, leisure and cultural destinations and events.
Formally called Kingston-upon-Hull, Hull is Yorkshire’s fourth-largest city and came to international prominence in 2017 when it was designated UK City of Culture and hosted a series of major events illustrating its growing status as a place to live and work. There have been billions of pounds invested here of the past 10-15 years, which has included multiple brand new homes estates.
The creation of thousands of new homes across all tenures has been done in parallel with modernising and creating community amenities, public open spaces, education and transport connectivity. Brownfield areas that remained disused for many years have been developed into attractive and well-served residential areas.
There’s been considerable work in the city centre, restoring heritage buildings, updating streets and public access, bringing life to previously unused areas and introducing more commercial and job-creation opportunities. The Old Town and waterside areas are benefitting from considerable investment.
The city centre and surrounding districts offer much to all sorts of interests. As well as two major shopping centres, many streets are home to major and independent brands, and there are several retail parks in outer areas too. There’s no shortage of places to eat and drink, nightclubs, cinemas and theatres, while several of the city’s galleries and museums are of national importance.
Parents will appreciate the number of schools for all ages which have been highly rated by Ofsted, and there’s also a choice of independent schools. There are several colleges which offer a great array of further and adult education courses, and the University of Hull has around 14,000 graduates and postgraduates studying there.
The city has a number of notable towns and villages surrounding it which can be a perfect choice for people who want easy access to all that central Hull offers but also benefit from proximity to some of Yorkshire’s countryside and scenic coastline. Many offer their own good range of local facilities but are well located to easily reach the far wider choice found in the city centre.
There’s an excellent choice of brand new homes for house-hunters in and around Hull right now, and here we take a look at some of the best current selection. All special offers and incentives mentioned here are available for a limited time and are subject to terms and conditions.
