The best new homes for sale in Tavistock

On the western edge of the county and Dartmoor National Park, Tavistock’s fortunes were made from trading in a variety of things, from copper to cattle to brewing, and it retains a range of historic buildings and a scenic setting which makes it a popular place to visit. Aside from the 900-year-old Pannier Market, now open Tuesday to Saturday every week, there are other markets taking place each Friday and Saturday. Along with its contemporary shops and amenities, it offers residents a lot on the doorstep, while the A386, which runs through the town, puts Okehampton and Plymouth within half-an-hour of home.

Among Cavanna Homes’ range of developments in the South West is Broadleigh Park, which in total is delivering 148 new homes with one to five bedrooms to the western edge of town, using an architectural designs in red brick, crisp render or natural slate to complement the local historic style. Southwest of town, there’s an impressive selection for sale at The Tors, from Bovis Homes. Priced from £229,950, the sizes range from two to five bedrooms including coach houses, terraced townhouses, semi-detached and detached houses. As well as schemes such as Deposit Unlock and contributions, there’s a Home Exchange Plus scheme on selected homes which avoids some of the hassles of the ‘property chain’ and contributes to things like your legal and removals costs, flooring and fitted wardrobes. The best new homes for sale in Newton Abbot

Newton Abbot still hosts a number of daily, weekly and periodic markets, now complemented by a shopping centre, superstore and numerous national-brand and independent retailers as well as a host of places to eat and drink. The numerous schools rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted are an attractive feature for parents. People of all ages have a wealth of things to do in the area, from canal trips and river walks to sports clubs and a day at the famous racecourse. The amenities and attractions of Torquay and the scenery of Dartmoor are only 15 minutes away. Direct rail services include routes to Penzance, Bristol, London and as far as Edinburgh.

Persimmon Homes, one of the UK’s largest housebuilders, is at work at Bradley Barton View on a collection of two-, three- and four-bedroom homes to the west of town. Schemes such as Part Exchange, Home Change and Early Bird are available on selected plots. Prices start at £274,995 and there house types to suit a range of budgets and requirements. There’s just one property remaining for sale from Cavanna Homes at Wolborough Hill, a development of just 26 homes, some in the conversion of a Victorian house and the others as brand new properties in a sympathetic style. ‘The Eton’ is a three-bedroom townhouse with kitchen, dining/living room and WC on the ground floor, two bedrooms and a bathroom on the first floor and the en suite main bedroom on the top floor. Linden Homes’   is on the northern edge of town with some new releases and some plots coming with a major contribution to Stamp Duty right now. A terrace property like ‘The Eveleigh’ is available through the Home Stepper scheme, a form of Shared Ownership where you purchase 50% (in this case, from £162,000) of the value of the home and a subsidised rent on the rest. The best new homes for sale in South Molton

In the north of Devon, around 12 miles from Barnstaple and 15 minutes’ drive from Exmoor, South Molton has an agricultural past and its Pannier Market is still there, along with a good range of shops, supermarkets, health facilities, and places to eat and spend leisure time. There are a few state schools rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted in this area, and some well-regarded independent schools too.

Cashmere Park is a development from Tilia Homes, where two- and three-bedroom homes currently range from £156,000 to £325,000, with a Shared Ownership option to help people who don’t currently own a home to take a step onto the property ladder. At £156,000 (a 60% share of the full market value of £260,000) is ‘The Alderley’, with three bedrooms (en suite to bedroom one), kitchen/diner and French doors from the living room to the garden. Top-of-the-range right now is an example of ‘The Priestley’, a detached home from £498,950 which comes with a double garage. It’s a great family home, with open-plan kitchen/dining room, utility room, dual-aspect lounge, dedicated study, four bedrooms (two with en suite) and a family bathroom. Bee Meadow, a development in the north of town from Baker Estates, is now 80% sold, but with a good choice of houses and bungalows still on the market from £384,995. The best new homes for sale in Holsworthy

In the northwestern corner of the county, around 10 miles from the attractive report of Bude, Holsworthy is well known for its important weekly livestock market – one of the region’s largest – just north of the town, but there’s a consumer market in its central square every Wednesday too. There’s a variety of independent shops and several supermarkets, including a large Waitrose. Bideford and Okehampton are just half-an-hour away.

Comprising just 19 three- and four-bedroom houses, all with garages and parking, Market Place is a small development from regional housebuilder Cavanna Homes which is just a 10-minute walk from the heart of the town and adjacent to open countryside. For families, Holsworthy Community College and the town’s Church of England primary school are both rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted and within a short walk or drive. Three- and four-bedroom homes currently available here start at £280,000 and house-hunters can ask about Part Exchange and Move Assist schemes. Located on the borders of both the East Devon and Blackdown Hills AONBs, Honiton celebrated the 800th anniversary of its market charter just a couple of years ago. It built its reputation for the quality of lace and pottery products from Elizabethan times, but its long High Street is known for its Georgian buildings, and there are plenty of shops, services and places to relax based along it. There are some schools rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted around the town. The station here is on the line between Exeter St Davids and London Waterloo. It’s around 30 to 40 minutes in the car to the likes of Exeter, Tiverton and Taunton.

Prices range from £290,000 to £460,000 at Mountbatten Mews, a Taylor Wimpey development by Mountbatten Park and within easy reach of the High Street. There will be 150 new homes here in all, a mix of three- and four-bedroom designs. Some of the current selection come with offers of Part Exchange, Easymover and mortgage contribution offers. ‘The Trusdale’, right now is £405,000 and there’s the chance to get a £12,000 contribution to your mortgage.
