Swap London For Winchester For Value-For-Money Apartments

Posted 28 July 2021 by Keith Osborne

Equivalent apartments are less expensive and larger in Winchester than south-west London, says some new research...

Berkeley Homes commissioned some exclusive research for property market intelligence company Dataloft and found moving from London to well-connected Winchester means a significant savings in prices and larger average floor space at apartments in the city – like those at its Knights Quarter development.

Findings showed that in comparison to south-west London, similar homes in Winchester are currently around 28% cheaper and boast 17% more square footage.

Knights Quarter by WhatHouse? Award-winning Berkeley Homes is a collection of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, penthouses and four- and five-bedroom houses a short walk from the city centre. A variety of exclusive facilities are also available on-site, including a residents’ gym and concierge services.

Ben Annetts, sales and marketing director at Berkeley Homes Southern, commented: “Many Londoners enjoy the convenience of having everything available on their doorsteps. Residents in Winchester also have exceptional access to shops and frequent public transport services, but homes here are only a fraction of the cost of those found in the capital. Our properties at Knights Quarter are located just 11-minutes away from both the High Street and Winchester train station, ensuring London leavers do not have to lose out on connectivity.”

Apartments at Knights Quarter contemporary kitchens which can be personalised to meet individual preferences with a choice of door and worktop finishes available. Siemens appliances, including a stainless steel fan-assisted oven, microwave oven and induction hob, are integrated into the design. Modern bathrooms feature Laufen suites, mirrored cabinets and chrome fixtures. Master bedrooms benefit from full-height fitted wardrobes, with some located in an adjacent dressing room. Some properties also benefit from a terrace or balcony area, providing access to a private outdoor space.

The Dataloft research also concluded that homes in Winchester typically have access to three times more outdoor space than those in the capital. In addition to the landscaped gardens at the development, there are several other pockets of tranquil greenery in the area. St Giles Hill rewards those that climb it with panoramic views of the city, or walkers can choose to take a relaxed stroll by the banks of the River Itchen along The Itchen Way. Winchester is at the west end of the South Downs and the New Forest National Park in just 24 minutes away by car.

There’s a wide range of big-brand and independent shops and places to eat and drink within just a few minutes’ stroll of Knights Quarter. Frequent rail services take 15 minutes to reach Southampton and 58 minutes to reach London Waterloo. There’s easy access to the M3 and M4 motorways for connection to places like Reading, Bristol and Cardiff. Southampton Airport can be reached in 15 minutes by car, while London Heathrow Airport is within an hour’s drive.

Prices at Knights Quarter currently start from £315,000. Some will be ready to move into the autumn. Find out more from Berkeley Homes.
