Still A Chance To Purchase An Award-Winning Home

Posted 2 December 2020 by Keith Osborne

Caley House in Wimbledon won Silver at the WhatHouse? Awards 2020 and there a few luxury homes still to snap up there...

The luxurious Caley House in Wimbledon won a prestigious WhatHouse? Award last week and house-hunters looking for a characterful home in south-west London still have the opportunity to buy one of the homes there.

Developer West Eleven picked up Silver for the Best Renovation category at the online event, announced by celebrity host Romesh Ranganathan.

Located on the corner of Leopold Road, Caley House is a sprawling period building which once belonged to renowned art critic and author Brian Sewell and it has been converted into individual apartments and complemented by a coach house conversion and some brand new, thoroughly contemporary mews houses.

If there’s one thing that the pandemic has taught Londoners, it’s that access to outdoor space is worth every penny; even more so if a property has the winning combination of its own outdoor space as well as access to parks and green space nearby. Not only does each property at Caley House have its own private outdoor areas, but they share secluded, mature landscaped communal gardens with the 1,140 acres of Wimbledon Common within walking distance just waiting to be explored.

The Coach House, at £1.495million, is a three-bedroom home arranged over two floors with its own entrance and two spacious terraces. This part of the building was originally a garage annexe, and the open-plan living, dining and kitchen area has been designed with stunning replica double doors reflecting its former use. The versatile accommodation includes a WC and guest bedroom on the ground floor, which could also be used as a home office or playroom, plus the master bedroom with en suite, second bedroom and family bathroom on the first floor.

Caley HouseApartment 5, also at £1.495million, is a generously sized penthouse apartment with three double bedrooms, one with an en suite, a family bathroom and an open-plan living, dining and kitchen area that opens on to a private balcony. It has sustainable wood plank floors and a British-made bespoke kitchen.

Mews Houses 8 and 9 are both on the market for £1.430million. These two brand new three-bedroom homes are on two floors with their own entrances and private mature gardens and patios. Designed with vaulted ceilings, full-height windows and bespoke staircases to beautifully complement the original house, the mews homes have contemporary open-plan living, dining and kitchen areas with pale oak flooring underfoot and bespoke kitchen units and islands topped with deep white Corian worktops. There’s also a WC on the ground floor. Upstairs there are three bedrooms, with an en suite to the master bedroom and a family bathroom.

Apartment 3 is priced at £799,500 and located on the first floor of the converted Edwardian house. It has a spacious, open-plan living, dining and kitchen area that opens out on to a large, private roof terrace overlooking the shared garden with its tranquil lily pond. There’s a generously sized bedroom, complete with bespoke fitted wardrobes, and ample built-in storage in the living area as well.

Caley House is an elegant gated development, which lies within the Wimbledon Conservation Area. It has been shortlisted for a number of national housing awards and was praised by the Borough of Merton’s planning department for the way in which the new mews homes complemented the existing historical building.

All the properties are finished to an extremely high standard, and every home has an on-site allocated parking space. The landscaped grounds include 17 individually protected mature trees, helping to screen the development from the outside world and create a tranquil and timeless environment for residents.

There are six primary schools within a mile of the front door rated as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, recreational opportunities for all the family on the doorstep (anyone for tennis?!) and excellent transport connections from Wimbledon, Southfields and Wimbledon Park stations.
