Topping Out Of New Derby Apartment Block
Wavensmere Homes has celebrated reaching the highest point of construction on its first of eight apartment blocks at Nightingale Quarter, Derby.
Designed by architects Gould Singleton, Strutt House comprises of 140 one- and two-bedroom apartments that feature an open-plan living area and modern kitchen design. The Wavensmere Homes construction team were joined by managing director James Dickens, Nick Spencer of BBS Capital, Grahame Whateley of Cedar Invest and chief executive of Derby Council, Paul Simpson.
Situated on the site of the former Derbyshire Royal Infirmary, Nightingale Quarter offers 897 properties in a range of one-, two- and three-bedroom homes and apartments. Covering more than 18.5 acres, Nightingale Quarter is one of the largest city centre regeneration sites in the UK and contributes to the on-going regeneration of Derby city centre.
Nightingale Quarter has seen unprecedented sales success since its launch in 2019, selling over 500 units within 18 months. James Dickens said: “The sales success at Nightingale Quarter has been incredible. We are delighted to be moving forward with the build programme in line with demand and ahead of schedule, despite all the challenges that were faced during the pandemic.”
Chief executive of Derby City Council, Paul Simpson says: “I was delighted to attend the topping out ceremony at Strutt House at Nightingale Quarter, Derby last week. It’s incredible to see the dramatic changes taking place at Nightingale Quarter and how the skyline in Derby is evolving.”
The history of the development dates back to 1810 and in 1894, Queen Victoria laid the foundation stone of the newly built hospital that was redesigned by Dr William Ogle with the help of Florence Nightingale. The infirmary closed in 2009 and most of the buildings were demolished in spring 2015.
Wavensmere Homes has retained and are restoring the two iconic pepper pot buildings. Pepper Pot South currently serves as the Marketing Suite which will be later given back to the community as a residential gym. Pepper Pot North is currently undergoing restoration work and will be a café in the heart of the community.
