Work Progressing At Hendon Development

Posted 1 December 2022 by Helen Christie

Construction is progressing well at St George’s Silkstream development in Hendon, North London…

Silkstream by St George is a new nine-acre development located between Brent Cross and Wembley.

This vibrant part of north London offers excellent schools, good local shops, cafes and restaurants, and an abundance of green, open spaces to explore. Brent Cross, one of the UK’s largest shopping centres, is close-by and the nearby Thameslink station takes residents to King’s Cross in under 20 minutes.

Silkstream will offer a stylish collection of suites, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments set within impressive landscaped gardens, designed to enhance biodiversity and make wellbeing something that comes naturally.

The sales and marketing suite, as well as stylish one- and two-bedroom show homes are currently available to view. A collection of apartments in Bower House and Lindley House are available to reserve off-plan, with prices ranging from £415,000 to £823,000.

With construction progressing, St George, a member of the Berkeley Group, recently welcomed representatives from Sainsbury’s, one of the largest operators of supermarkets in the UK, to Silkstream to showcase the progress being made on one of Hendon’s most exciting and sustainable new developments

Following the deal being announced in 2020 and construction commencing last year, the development is progressing well. The foundations of the development have now been prepared, and the floor of Bower House, the first block in the development, has been laid. The structural columns that will support its entire structure are also being built, and attendees took the opportunity to pour concrete into a section of one to the rear of the block as part of the visit.

The new 43,000 sq ft Sainsbury’s flagship store is scheduled to open in 2024 and will include undercover parking for over 250 customers and sit alongside a 1.5-acre public park with play space for families. The nine-acre development will also provide 1,309 homes, as well as 10,000 sq ft of flexible commercial space for cafés, restaurants, office space or a gym.

The partnership promises a significant investment in the local economy, with the site expected to support over 500 jobs during the total 10-year build programme. St George will provide jobs for local people and deliver apprenticeship schemes including formal college education, technical trade skills, dedicated mentoring and outdoor learning programmes, while Sainsbury’s, which has been serving the Hendon community for over 25 years and employs over 1,000 people in the Barnet Borough, will continue to support local charities as well as its nationwide community programmes and charity partners.

Stephen Kirwan, regional managing director, at St George says: “Sainsbury’s is a prominent and modern high street retailer, and we are proud to work in partnership with them to deliver this important development for Hendon. Silkstream epitomises our commitment to investing in communities and creating sustainable neighbourhoods through improved biodiversity and the creation of more accessible green spaces, state-of-the-art amenities and much-needed new homes and jobs for Hendon, as well as the wider London area.”

Patrick Dunne, director of Group Property, FM & Procurement (CPO) at Sainsburys Plc, adds: “We were pleased to join St George on site at the Silkstream development in Hendon this month and we had the chance to walk on part of the first floor of Bower House, where our brand new flagship store will be housed. It was amazing to see how much the project has progressed in just over a year. As part of our ambitious property pipeline, we are working with developers on projects like Silkstream to regenerate local neighbourhoods while investing in brand new stores for the communities we serve and I’m very pleased that our partnership with St George continues to thrive.”
