Resident Care A Priority At Gloucester Retirement Development
It’s been a difficult time for us all over these past year, but for many retirees, lockdown has made them reassess their housing needs, and take the plunge to downsize their home.
McCarthy Stone’s Scudamore Place Retirement Living development on St Ann Way in Gloucester, welcomed its first homeowners in March. Here, Nicole Mason, house manager talks about what it’s been like to ensure homeowners could move into their new homes safely and start benefiting from a warm and welcoming community during these turbulent times.
“We welcomed our first homeowners to Scudamore Place in March. It might have felt like a strange time for retirees to be moving home, but actually, for many of them, the pandemic made them realise that they want to be part of a sociable community where they can still enjoy their independence, which is exactly what Scudamore Place is all about.
“It’s my job to ensure that their move goes as smoothly as possible and that they’re then able to enjoy a relaxing and safe lifestyle once they’re here, whether they want to unwind in the privacy of their own apartment, enjoy a coffee or glass of wine with the other homeowners or get out and about to participate in their hobbies.
“I’m definitely a people person, so working with the homeowners at Scudamore Place is the perfect job for me. It’s already a wonderful community full of brilliant people. There’s a real family feel to it, so it makes my job easy!”
Since starting at Scudamore Place, Nicole has focused on ensuring that all of the homeowners are settled in and that they’re able to get to know each other, even if it did mean thinking outside the box to adhere to covid restrictions. From organising door-to-door cake and coffee deliveries, to small socially-distanced gatherings in the garden, and even daily walks around the building to make sure everyone is ok, Nicole has done whatever she could to ensure the homeowners can enjoy their new home to the full. Her plans don’t stop there though.
“There’s such a lovely bunch of people here and I can’t wait to start organising proper events for them, coffee mornings, afternoon teas, movie afternoons and dinner clubs. I also work closely with my colleague Matthew, who manages our neighbouring Llanthony Place [https://www.whathouse.com/housebuilders/mccarthy-stone/gloucestershire-arlingham/llanthony-place/] development. Neither of us were able to have the grand opening parties we wanted, so we’re going to plan a big joint celebration as soon as we’re able. I know we’re all going to have such a good time.
“Everyone’s settled in really well and I’m looking forward to welcoming more homeowners. I couldn’t be prouder to be part of such a lovely community.”
Designed for the over-60s, Scudamore Place features a communal lounge which is ideal for socialising with friends and new neighbours, beautifully landscaped gardens in which to relax, and a convenient hotel-style guest suite should friends or relatives wish to stay.
Properties at Scudamore Place are currently priced from £169,950 for a one-bedroom apartment and from £258,450 for a two-bedroom apartment. In addition, for maximum flexibility, part-buy part-rent and full rental options are available.
