Show Home Room By Room: Watling Grange, Harrogate

Louise Wynne of Interhouse Design explains the decoration and accessories of the ‘Merevale’ show house…

Persona Homes has launched three new show homes at their Watling Grange development on the outskirts of Harrogate. With unique house types and design choices, including vaulted ceilings and dual aspect windows, the homes offer free-flowing open-plan living that allows buyers to make the most of the space on offer.

Priced from £285,000, the development of around 350 homes will also include purpose-built green space, including a network of footpaths, cycle ways and community gardens, with all profits made by Persona Homes put back into creating affordable housing across England and Scotland.

The largest of the three show homes, the four bedroom ‘Merevale’ has been styled by Harrogate-based Interhouse Design, with every detail used to bring to life the character of the home and convey how to maximise each room of the house for contemporary living.

Kitchen and living area

‘Merevale’Louise Wynne, creative director at Interhouse Design, oversaw the design of the home and explains how the open plan kitchen, dining and living space is the main hub of the house.

She said: “The room has been configured with different zones for cooking, dining and relaxing, and benefits from huge floor to ceiling wrap around windows at both ends.

“The modern living space is divided into thirds with an impressive kitchen island unit complete with marble worktop and indigo blue cabinets, which were the starting point for the interior design concept.

“An open-plan room is the hub of the house and, as such, can be a busy space, so we chose to create a calm and harmonious feeling by papering all walls in a beautiful smoky blue wallpaper and keeping the colour palette throughout soft and muted, with patterns to a minimum.

“In addition to this, we selected the same wooden flooring throughout to maximise the sense of space and give a classic, timeless feel, and added a textured rug in the living room zone for a cosy, intimate look. Two sofas have also been socially organised in an ‘L’ shape, marking the start of the living room area and creating a feel of intimacy.

“This opulent, sophisticated scheme complements the open plan space. We kept the colour palette soft and muted to allow for a relaxed feel and added interest through the layering of different luxurious textures such as wools, silks and embroidered fabrics.

“Furniture is clean lined and mirrors the shape of the room to allow for best possible flow through the space.”

Master bedroom

‘Merevale’With open-plan living downstairs, it’s more important than ever to create an inviting sanctuary in the master bedroom, explains Louise.

“We used a stunning contemporary floral wallpaper throughout for a luxurious finish and, despite the bold use of pattern, its soft neutral palette still allows for the feeling of peace and tranquillity.

“Lighting, furniture and accessories with soft brass detailing complement the look, as does the bed with its sumptuous cushions and plush silk bedspread.

“All elements combine to create a peaceful retreat from the hub of family life.”

Second bedroom

‘Merevale’With the return of visitors hopefully on the horizon, Louise describes how they made the ‘Merevale’’s second bedroom somewhere people will want to keep coming back to.

She said: “The guest bedroom suite perfectly complements the colour palette and design of the open-plan ground floor living space.

“A smoky blue wallpaper with sophisticated animal print design is the backdrop for this contemporary bedroom suite. A statement panelled headboard, striking chandelier and marbled velvet bed throw create an opulent boutique hotel feel that will make any guest feel truly special.”

With Watling Grange’s three show homes all now open, each has its own virtual tour to allow buyers to look inside; house-hunters can view the three-bedroom ‘Calder’, the four-bedroom ‘Merevale’, and the three-bedroom ‘Easby’.

The marketing suite and show homes are also open for in-person visits, but strictly by appointment only and follow strict Covid-19 guidelines. Find out more at www.yourpersonahome.com.
