Show Home Room By Room: Centenary Quay, Woolston

Keith OsborneRadian Homes – part of the Abri Group – has unveiled a brand new show home at Centenary Quay in Woolston, Southampton. Located on the water’s edge, Centenary Quay comprises new one- and two-bedroom apartments, located less than 10 minutes’ drive from Southampton’s historic city centre. The homes are available to purchase through Shared Ownership, making them an ideal first-time buyer purchase.
The show home’s interior has been designed by Oasis Interior Design, and every detail has been thoughtfully considered with the first-time buyer audience in mind. Rachel Best from Oasis explained that Radian Homes “wanted a stylish and elegant design that would be both aspirational but within reach: helping buyers to imagine living in their first home.”
Rachel said that the team “selected a soft colour palette of cool greys and natural woods” to give the rooms “a fresh and airy quality”, with more vivid pops of colour to add depth and interest, such as rich greens and deep teals, and accents of brass and copper “imbued the space with warm and cosy golden light”.
Living room
Most importantly, Rachel said, is the flexibility of the space. In the living room, the space has been considered to make use of the open plan layout to provide a comfortable environment while working from home: “Over the last few months many of us have had to embrace working from home, therefore it was important for us to make sure the living space was versatile enough to allow a comfortable ‘pop-up’ home office.
“We designed the living room into two distinct zones: a dining area, and a seating area for informal entertaining. The plush rug divides the floor space while a chic tripod floor lamp defines the room vertically, yet the consistency of the colour palette of greys and golds ensures the harmony of the whole room.”
Master bedroom
But as we increasingly see our spaces as multi-use, it was important to create a sense of calm and relaxation in the bedroom. Rachel explained: “We wanted the bedrooms to be peaceful retreats, using the softest and most subdued greens of our colour pallet. We used oversized bedding and layered cushions to dress the beds: combining clean and calming linen with sumptuous velvet and faux fur for both a peaceful and luxurious setting, inviting you to sink into its depths.”
Second bedroom
Designed as a guest suite, the second room “retains continuity with the master bedroom through a shared colour scheme”, said Rachel, “however, the dominant design scheme of this bedroom was contrast: the statement wall was painted lighter to elevate the disparity between the pale colour palette and the charcoal grey of the headboard and the throw. Golden light enters the bedroom reflecting off a brass bubble mirror, which we situated as the eye-catching focal point of the room.”
Kitchen
During the first lockdown, there was a huge spike in people taking to the kitchen. Whether it was trying a new recipe, or mastering an old favourite, Covid–19 has compelled so many of use to rediscover the joys of home cooking. As such, Rachel explained, “we lightly styled the kitchen with lifestyle accessories, presenting cooking utensils and products that would allow buyers to imagine cooking together in their new home.”
