Local Family Upgrades to a Five-Bedroom Home

Posted 6 September 2021 by Keith Osborne

High-quality local schools and space for two home offices attracted the Murdochs to a five-bedroom home at Hayfield Avenue...

A family with two young children has moved from the town of St Neots to a five-bedroom home at Hayfield Avenue. Situated in the historic Cambridgeshire village of Great Gransden, only two of the luxury eco-friendly homes now remain for sale at the popular rts and Crafts-style scheme.

Holly and Shaun Murdoch have made the eight-mile move to Hayfield Avenue to plan ahead for secondary school choices for their seven-year-old daughter Sophie and three-year-old son Toby. They have moved into a five-bedroom ‘Hanwell’ home, which features a spectacular open-plan kitchen and family area.

Holly said: “We were very familiar with Great Grandsen before moving here, because Shaun volunteers as an instructor at Cambridge Gliding Club, which is based in the fields by Hayfield Avenue. My friend is also the event manager for the Gransden Show. It is such a lovely village and the primary and secondary schools in the catchment area are rated as Ofsted ‘Outstanding’, which was a really big motivator for us to move.

“Shaun used to commute into London’s financial district four days a week, but since the first Covid-19 lockdown, he has worked from home full-time. My project management job with a software company has always been home-based, so having five bedrooms has enabled us to each have a dedicated study.

“The main bedroom is so luxurious with the dressing area and en suite. Having a further en suite and family bathroom upstairs is perfect for family life. But my favourite part of the house is definitely the beautiful kitchen and grand hallway. Our friends and family are really wowed by the design and the quality.”

Located off Sand Road, prices for the final three- and four-bedroom homes are £385,000 and £670,000 respectively. Key Workers are entitled to a £5,000 discount off the price of any Hayfield home.

The last remaining three-bedroom ‘Buckland’ home is available to purchase via the Help to Buy initiative. First-time buyers only need to put down a 5% deposit, with 20% of the sales price able to be covered by a government loan. A homeowner mortgage is required for the remaining 75% of the value.

The collection of brick and render homes feature Hayfield’s luxurious specification, including bespoke Manor Interiors kitchens, ROCA Laufen bathrooms, Minoli ceramic tiles, underfloor heating, Hammonds fitted wardrobes, heritage bronze ironmongery, Farrow & Ball paint, and sound-deadened studies. All the homes are heated by eco-friendly Air Source Heat Pumps.

The village is well served by the two nearby towns of Cambourne and St Neots, the latter of which is the largest town in Cambridgeshire and offers a 47-minute direct train service to London’s Kings Cross station. Great Gransden is also a convenient location for commuting into Cambridge, Bedford, Stevenage and Peterborough and across East Anglia. The close by A428 provides excellent access to the A11 and M11 Motorway, the A1 and the A1/M1 link road, as well as the A14 and A10. The village also benefits from a bus service, which stops at numerous locations including Cambourne, St Neots and Cambridge.

The Hayfield Avenue show home is open daily between 10.00am and 5.00pm, located at Sand Road, Great Gransden, Cambridgeshire, SG19 3AQ. Find out more from multiple WhatHouse? Awards winning housebuilder Hayfield.
