Posted 10 October 2017 by Helen Christie

We look at the best villages around the York area for house-hunters considering buying their first or new home...

York is a beautiful, historic city home to the University of York and York Minster, an impressive Gothic cathedral.

It is a walled city that has seen property prices soar in the last few years. The latest Land Registry figures show that the average property price in York is £246,109.

York is situated in North Yorkshire, a county in the region of Yorkshire. Yorkshire is one of the most beautiful places in England, and the largest county, often referred to as God’s Own County. Yorkshire is home to many large cities, including Leeds, York, Sheffield and Bradford, and several universities, as well as long list of Further Education colleges. As well as the University of York, the universities include University of Leeds, University of Sheffield and the University of Hull.

Yorkshire has some of the greenest areas in England, including the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors, which is a Heritage Coast area. Nidderdale and the Howardian Hills in Yorkshire are also Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, so for those wanting to move to the area, but looking for a quieter, more rural life than the big cities offer, there are some beautiful villages near York…
