The Quarry, a joint venture between L&Q and The Anderson group, is a new eco-development located in Erith, South East London.

What House? spoke to the The Quarry’s design team from Hatch Interiors about their inspiration for the show home.

“We wanted to create an earthy, organic feel to complement the character of the new eco-development. We have also taken aesthetic influence from the history of the development, which has been built on the site of an old quarry. Throughout the show home we used raw, natural materials such as stone, concrete and reclaimed wood to enhance the contemporary  homes that sit within this wooded, ecologically rich grassland area.

“We have created a space for aspirational living for a modern family with young or older children that’s still accessible for both older and professional couples. The mossy green, burnt orange and mustard palettes throughout were used to create a warm feeling and bring nature from the outside in. We used soft lighting and reflective surfaces to create a sense of peace and harmony within the family home.

“With the modern family in mind, we ensured that all furnishings were made of durable materials, resistant to wear and tear and comfortable to use.”

Kitchen: “We dressed the kitchen with a mix of brass and copper metallic accessories. We also included concrete and marble textures to reflect the surroundings and allow the natural tones to shine through. To create a family kitchen, the window sills were dressed with soft plants and herbs that can also be used in home cooking.”

Dining area: “Our family friendly dining table accessories are our favourite feature here! The nature-inspired placemats, marble coasters and warm brass accents really helped provide the perfect finishing touches to the room.”

Living room: “We love the effect that the geometric feature wall creates in this room. We wanted the room to be memorable and we feel this bold choice of wallpaper certainly leaves a lasting impression! It helps to bring warmth to the room and combines perfectly with the colour palette of the soft furnishings featured in this space.”

Master bedroom: “The raw wooden and stone finishes featured on the bed and bedside tables are amongst our favourite features. They really helped to strengthen the ‘natural material’ concept running throughout the show home.”

Second bedroom: “We loved the combination of the marble statement wallpaper along with the handmade blue lacquered timber headboard. This was made by our in-house carpenters. The use of a natural stone effect paper along with the unique feature headboard worked really well and helps make the room stand out as something special!”

Child’s room: “Our favourite piece in this bright and creative room was the bespoke ‘house’ bed that we had made by one of our carpenters at Hatch. The design was based around the idea of creating a den space to be enjoyed by children as well as having a practical function.”

Bathrooms: “Our fun and bright accessories in the bathrooms really helped to make the bathrooms feel fresh and family orientated. We loved the use of bright towels with a combination of textures and prints.”
