The Pathé Building by Legal & General - Show Home Room by Room

Posted 6 December 2017 by Helen Christie

WhatHouse? takes a tour of The Pathé Building, a new development in London’s West End…

The Pathé building, originally home to Pathé films, is situated in lively, creative Soho. The development will consist of fifteen luxury apartments, including two penthouses.

Alexander James Interior Design took on the design of the Pathé show home, and Ellie Roseff from Alexander James Interior Design talks us through the contemporary, quirky show home.

“The brief was to create a scheme that works well in the buzzing, creative hub of the West End. Soho is known for its bars and restaurants, quirky shops, and media industry. The apartment is situated off the famous Wardour Street, so I needed to create an aspirational space whilst injecting interest with key eye catching features.

The style was inspired by an industrial finish, refined with more luxury pieces to appeal to a broader London market. I achieved this look by sourcing unique pieces and specifying bespoke complementary items. I also created a private gallery via the stairwell by collaborating with our in-house art consultant, where we hand-picked eclectic prints in bespoke frames to deliver the style intended.”

Hallway: In the hallway and staircase area of our apartment design we used a bespoke chair which acted as a statement feature in its op-camouflage effect zig zag fabric. This enhanced the contemporary styling of this London apartment, allowing the scheme to flow continuously to the quirky study area upstairs. We used a gallery of abstract artwork on the staircase in monochrome frames to add a sophisticated touch to the design.

Lounge: Our Lounge area is robust in colour and brimming with personality. We used bespoke seating in rich navy velvet fabric with contrasting cushion fabrics for added depth. On the rear wall we used a statement abstract art piece which is both powerful and invigorative, picking up and reinforcing the warm tones throughout the historic apartment scheme.

Dining area: Our dining area is clean and contemporary, with a sleek bespoke bench in luxurious fabric adding another layer of crisp, linear alignment to our minimalist design. The table echoes the organic oak flooring perfectly, adding to the modern, quirky apartment scheme. A duo of pot plants sits upon the sleek table, adding the perfect minimalist touch, whilst adding a subtle pop of colour to this design.

Outdoor terrace: A haven within London’s edgy Soho, we designed the private outdoor terrace of this funky apartment to offer a little oasis of luxury, injecting vibrant greenery into the urban environment with Mediterranean plants and seating. The calming tones of grey throughout the furniture pieces add to the relaxed and tranquil atmosphere.

Bedroom: Adding characterful eccentricity to his unique bedroom design, the pair of abstract prints echo the bold colours within our carefully selected soft furnishing fabrics and square cushions, whilst the globe lamps cast a feeling of fun and personality into this edgy bedroom interior. The armchair in funky zig zag fabric is an effective statement feature; teamed with a richly contrasting navy cushion, it makes the perfect addition to this bedroom.

Study: This study is contemporary and eclectic in style. The Italian leather desk chair is rich in colour and provides an effective colour contrast in this interior. The white floor lamp in hand-rubbed antique brass casts the perfect light over the beautifully accessorised desk which has a luxurious leather inserted top. The greenery in the design through the use of plants, adds a quirky pop of character; a welcome contrast to the dark, rich tones in the surrounding interiors.
