Nordic-Inspired Homes At West Sussex Development

Posted 17 January 2022 by Helen Christie

Nordic-inspired homes at Woodgate in Pease Pottage offer a stylish new twist on modern village living…

A bespoke collection of new homes, The Villas on the Green, will shortly be launched by Thakeham at its new village community, Woodgate, in Pease Pottage in West Sussex.

Perfect for those who aspire to live in a semi-rural environment, but without sacrificing on convenient travel connections, these striking four-bedroom homes have a strong Scandinavian influence, and are located in a prime position in the heart of Woodgate, overlooking the village green.

Rising to two or three storeys, these impressive homes echo the grandeur and presence of Edwardian villas which deliver expansive space for the footprint. The external architecture is Nordic in style, providing a modern twist through angular facades and large expanses of glass that allow natural light to flood into the homes.

Dominic Chapman, partner with architects JTP explains: “The exceptional location by the central village green demanded a very special collection of homes with a strong sense of place. This grand, elegant terrace of houses with gabled frontages was inspired by the local Edwardian architecture. We blended this with a contemporary take on modern living which draws on Scandinavian design to create airy, light-filled spaces. Placing living areas with terraces on the upper floors maximises the light and takes full advantage of the amazing views. This imaginative layout creates a modern, integrated home where living, entertaining and relaxing flow seamlessly together.”

Four individual house styles offer buyers a choice of interior layouts and exterior finishes. A stand-out feature is the expansive roof terrace with far-reaching views across the village green and Tilgate Forest beyond. In some homes, the open-plan kitchen/dining space is on the top floor allowing residents to fully enjoy the wonderful views from the terrace and creating an amazing entertaining space. Each home also has a rear garden, extending the living space even further.

Spacious, flexible and with a contemporary specification, the interiors capture the essence of Scandinavian design. Understated elegance blends with ‘hygge’ to create a cosy and comforting feel. The sleek décor, accessorised by matt black ironmongery, is warmed by natural oak-effect flooring. Elegant fully fitted kitchens include stone worktops and ceramic wall tiling, while sumptuous bathrooms feature a mix of stone and wood-effect finishes. Every house has a garage and parking space. Fast charging units are provided for electric cars, controlled remotely via a smartphone app.

Emma Chamberlain, sales director at Thakeham, comments: “The pandemic has made many people reassess how they want to live. More space, a calmer lifestyle, being part of a community and close to nature are all high on the wish list. At the same time, discerning buyers seek quality, a high specification and the convenience of very good amenities and transport links. The Villas on the Green meet all these criteria and the striking contemporary design, which is less usual in country developments, will appeal to people who want a more unusual home that stands out from the crowd and is sure to impress.”

Woodgate is a new community within easy reach of the extensive amenities in Crawley, which is just three miles away, and historic Horsham, located seven miles from the development. A state-of-the-art primary school opened at Woodgate in September, and future amenities will include a community hub and café, together with a community-managed village shop. Extensive open space will include a new village green with surrounding play areas, trails, pathways and cycle routes linking the development to the 370-acre Tilgate Forest.

Transport links are excellent. Fastway bus services directly link Woodgate with Three Bridges station, Crawley and Gatwick. From Three Bridges, fast trains run directly into London Bridge (35 minutes), Blackfriars (41 minutes) and London Victoria (40 minutes). The M25 is a ten-minute drive away, and it is just 45 miles to London.

Prices at The Villas on the Green start from £675,000.
