Upper Longcross is a growing garden village with a whole range of new property for sale to appeal to many different house-hunters, and Southern Home Ownership currently has a range of apartments for sale on a Shared Ownership basis – a perfect option for first-time purchasers who have only a limited budget.

Taking shape just outside Chertsey and within easy reach of the likes of Sunningdale, Virginia Water and Chobham, the current phase of this long-term project is called West Village. It’s the latest opportunity for buyers to acquire a brand new home in a well-connected part of Surrey that combines proximity to great local shops, amenities and countryside with a very convenient connection to many other places via the nearby M3, M25 and a number of railway stations, with Longcross’s own being just a few minutes’ walk from the front door and offering a journey time of under an hour into Waterloo.

The garden village design philosophy has proven very popular over the years with features such as tree-lined streets, open spaces and excellent access with paths and cycle routes, served by a thorough selection of shops, essential amenities and things to do.

LongcrossShared Ownership is a government-backed initiative which provides an opportunity to ‘part buy-part rent’ a brand new property. There are eligibility criteria on things like earnings and current homeownership but house-hunters who qualify will be able to buy a proportion of the new home – usually between 25% and 75% - and pay a subsidised rent on the remainder. It means they will require a much smaller mortgage and deposit than they would need if they purchased outright. Over time, if they wish and can afford to, buyers can purchase further shares up to 100%.

Southern Home Ownership’s Longcross homes are a range of two-bedroom Shared Ownership apartments which are currently priced between £140,000 and £147,000 for a 35% share (full market values ranging from £400,000 to £420,000). Plot 2059 is a great example. It has two double bedrooms, with en suite and fitted wardrobe to bedroom one, a separate bathroom and an open-plan kitchen/living/dining room which opens out to a private balcony.

All properties have an impressive standard specification which includes: energy-saving uPVC double glazed windows and central heating; contemporary fitted kitchens with a range of appliances; modern white sanitaryware to bathrooms and en suites; neutral painting/finishes throughout as a ‘blank canvas’ for decorating; a mix of Amtico, carpet and tiled flooring according to room; and a secure entry system. All residents benefit from lift access to all floors, communal post boxes, cycle store and a landscaped communal courtyard.
