The South West of England is a region with a great deal to offer, from busy cities and thriving town to some of the country’s most admires countryside and coastline. There’s appeal to a whole range of house-hunters, including those who want to get on the property ladder for the first time through Shared Ownership.

Shared Ownership is a brilliant way to buy a property on a modest income. Initially, a proportion of the new home is purchased, from 25% to 75% of the full market value (FMV) – and a subsidised rent paid on the remainder. It brings the benefits and security of homeownership while requiring a lower deposit and mortgage than an equivalent open-market property.

We take a look at some of the Shared Ownership (sometimes known as part buy-part rent) homes for sale in the South West right now:


The Chasse, Topsham, Devon

The ChasseThere are four apartments available here, with prices starting from £68,750 for a 25% share (FMV £275,000) of a two-bedroom apartment, with the ground floor having a terrace and first-floor homes having a Juliet balcony. Durleigh Gardens, Bridgewater, Somerset

Durleigh GardensThis development is located just minutes out of market town Bridgewater town centre, offering a the benefits of rural and town living. There’s currently a range of homes available with an initial 40% share. A Guide To Part Buy Part Rent
Part Rent Part Buy is a scheme you can use with Home Reach where you buy a share of your chosen newly built home and pay a monthly rent on the part you don’t buy. Your budget will decide the size of the share you buy, rather than the size of your home. So, you might decide to buy a bigger share of a lower priced home or a smaller share of a more expensive home.

You are able to purchase your share in either cash savings or by taking out a mortgage. If you are taking out a mortgage to finance your share, you will need to allow for a minimum of 5% deposit. The larger your deposit (typically 10%) the lower your mortgage repayments are likely to be.
