WhatHouse? On Tour: Aubury Place, Chiswick

Posted 15 January 2020 by Keith Osborne

WhatHouse? leaves the office behind to take a look at Aubury Place, an exclusive new luxury development in Chiswick, west London...

The WhatHouse? team recently took a trip to west London to see Aubury Place, a collection of luxury homes from award-winning Kebbell in sought-after Chiswick, W12.

Just 10 minutes’ walk from Stamford Brook station on the District line, it’s a gated entrance off Emlyn Road to this boutique development of nine luxurious family homes. We’re greeted by our host Andrea Fawell, sales and marketing director of housebuilder Kebbell and take a look at a fully decorated, four-storey, 4,266-sq-ft detached house known as ‘The Wollerton’.

Up a flight of steps and through the arched front entrance and it’s into the expansive hallway, where Andrea tells us a little about Kebbell’s history and the continuing success that recently led to the company winning a Silver for Best Small Housebuilder at the prestigious WhatHouse? Awards.

Founded by Thomas Kebbell in 1953, its current managing director is his son Nick on a Board that includes a number of other members of the family. It builds a very wide range of homes, from a £170,000, two-bedroom home in North Yorkshire to the £15million Titlarks House mansion in Sunningdale’s most sought-after residential road.

Common to all, says Andrea, is a “passion in detail and the privilege of time over financial constraint”. There’s no compromising standards in order to reduce a buying price and no hurry to sell before a home is completed to the MD’s exacting standards. It’s not uncommon to move wardrobe fittings, electrical points and even walls to maximise the aesthetics and practicalities of any property. There have been very few examples of buyers wanting to alter things before they move in.

Off the hallway is a WC/cloakroom and at the front of the home, a double-door to the sitting room with large bay window. The quality of features such as light fittings, door fittings, TV and power points, flooring, skirting boards and architraves here will be seen throughout the house, which has comfortable underfloor heating from top to bottom. The contemporary-styled interior design throughout is by expert Jo Harris.

At the rear is a large drawing room with Juliet balcony and French doors to the upper terrace and lawn. From here we head down to the lower ground floor where the kitchen/dining room has top-quality units, worktops and fitted appliances and has bi-fold doors to the paved lower terrace. Off the lower landing is a utility room, which leads to the single integral garage, as well as another WC and a family room/study, which has its own small patio.

Aubury PlaceUp to the first floor and it’s into the master bedroom, with window and Juliet balcony overlooking the rear garden/terrace. This spacious room comes with a dressing area with substantial, leather-fronted, full-height wardrobes, and an elegant, marble-floored en suite with twin basins, large shower and feature bath. Across the landing is bedroom two, also with a dressing area and en suite shower room. Next to that, bedroom three has plenty of room for a double bed and furniture and also comes with an en suite. Finally to the top floor, which has two more double bedrooms, a bathroom and a very large games room.

We then take a quick look around ‘The Leighton’, five-bedroom home with 5,540 sq ft of living space over four storeys and a 3,531-sq-ft garden. This has been fitted and furnished in a more traditional way, also through Jo Harris. From the hallway to the left is a huge kitchen/dining/family room with Charles Yorke kitchen, granite work surfaces and a five-hob range oven. There is plenty of room to fit dining and lounge furniture in a variety of layouts. Off this is a utility room, lightwell and two sets of French doors out to the garden. We go back through the hallway past the WC and an opulently designed study to the very large drawing room.

Downstairs is a large gym with patio, a shower room, a home cinema and our favourite room of the day, a games room/den complete with pool table, chess/card table and well-equipped bar area, and its own small patio.

The first floor has four en suite bedrooms, three of which also have a dressing room/area. To the top floor and there’s a fifth double bedroom, a family bathroom and kitchenette, all of which could make a perfect home for an au pair. On the other side of the landing is a large playroom that has plenty of space for a host of toys and games as well as a comfortable place to sit and enjoy TV and films.

The garden combines a sizeable lawn with a generous patio to entertain the family and guests, and there’s rear access to the single attached garage.

With most units purchased or reserved, the show home is now the final home available at Aubury Place, priced at £3.75m.

Andrea Fawell said: “We have been delighted with the interest and there is a real buzz around these unique properties. The homes boast perfectly proportioned living spaces, grand sweeping staircases and exceptional kitchens and have been designed to fulfil the requirements of a wide range of lifestyles from the warm pulse of family time, the intimacy of private life, for elegant entertaining, or simply moments of perfect solitude.”
