The Silk DistrictLondon developer Mount Anvil has joined with L&Q to unveil The Silk District, which will deliver more than 450 studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments over four phases to Whitechapel in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets and right on the fringe of the City of London and will be served by Crossrail/the Elizabeth Line line that launches at the end of this year.

With strong off-plan sales of the private sale properties on Phase 1, this development has already shown that its combination of location, specification and price have attracted a lot of house-hunters. Designed by Stockwell Architects, the name of the site is based on its heritage from the 17th century. Great value deals in London’s Shared Ownership hotspot

New data released by Share to Buy, the portal for first-time buyers, reveals that the London Borough of Southwark is the capital’s most popular area for potential Shared Ownership buyers, and there are currently a range of excellent deals available there for fans of the government-backed scheme.

L&Q is promoting Quebec Quarter, a new development leading the regeneration of Canada Water. Here prices start from £120,000 for a 25% share of a one-bedroom apartment (based on a full market value of £480,000), which would need a minimum deposit of £12,000. On Borough High Street, Hyde New Homes has homes at Brandon House from £195,000 for a 25% share of a two-bedroom apartment (based on a full market value of £780,000), which requires a minimum deposit of £9,750.

Nick Lieb, head of operations for Share to Buy, says: “Southwark is consistently a firm favourite with potential Shared Ownership purchasers. It’s the diversity and vibrancy the borough offers that really gives it the edge. From rapidly regenerating Elephant and Castle, where there is a wide selection of Shared Ownership homes available within sought after redevelopment schemes such as Elephant Park, to vibrant Peckham, where we see a number of resale Shared Ownership homes coming onto the market. With the news this week that ‘Bank of Mum and Dad’ funds may be dwindling, schemes such as Shared Ownership are even more essential - helping first time buyers onto the ladder in high value areas such as Southwark.”
