The WhatHouse? team is always on the lookout for exceptional new homes currently for sale and today we’ve come across the ‘Bilberry’, an affordable three-bedroom house type at Hurtwood Homes’ Newchurch Meadows in Rossendale, Lancashire.

The ‘Bilberry’ is a terraced house type that shares the whole development’s design ethic, which combines architecture that complements the existing period property in the region with a thoroughly modern approach to interior layouts and specification. Off the hallway is the lounge with a large window bringing in lots of natural light at the front of the house. The kitchen/dining room at the rear is also a bright space that has French doors to the rear garden. Also downstairs are a WC, and some useful storage under the stairs. On the first floor, the double master bedroom also has built-in storage and alongside the two single bedrooms (which could equally be used at a nursery, study or hobby room) is the family bathroom.

Through Home Reach, a 50% share of the ‘Bilberry’ starts from £116,250 (based on a full market value from £232,500). This would require a minimum of 5% deposit from £5,812.

Home Reach is an affordable homes initiative by housing provider heylo, who works with housebuilders across England to provide an opportunity to ‘part buy-part rent’ a brand new home. Would-be buyers who meet the eligibility criteria can purchase a share of a new build house or apartment (usually, but not always, between 50% and 75%) and pay a subsidised rent to heylo on the remainder. The scheme provides all the benefits of homeownership but requires a much smaller deposit (5% of the share price) and a smaller mortgage than when purchasing outright. Over time, owners can buy further shares as their budget allows, until they own 100%.
