The WhatHouse? team tells you about our favourite new home for sale right now – today, we pick an apartment at White Building @ Chapel Gate, a Barratt Homes development in Basingstoke, Hampshire.

Plot 543 is two-bedroom apartment on the ground floor of a striking restored Art Deco building, the former Eli Lilly factory, which is a popular landmark being sensitively transformed into 96 one- and two-bedroom apartments, with great care taken to preserve and restore the original period features. This apartment has two double bedrooms, each with built-in wardrobes, and there’s an en suite in the master bedroom too. There’s a family bathroom, plenty of storage and a spacious, open-plan kitchen/dining living room with two large windows. It also comes with allocated parking.

Currently priced at £254,995, it qualifies for a special offer from Barratt Homes where it will make a 5% deposit contribution for a reservation in November. The properties here are all available through Help to Buy.

Sales director for Barratt Southern Counties, Lynnette St-Quintin, said: “We have been working hard with conversion specialists to ensure that the original structure and facades are being preserved, while many of the original Art Deco features have also been restored.”

The Chapel Gate development is bringing a whole range of one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom properties to a site just a few minutes’ walk from the station, shops and various leisure facilities. In addition to the restored period building, there are plenty of three- and four-bedroom contemporary houses. Prices here currently range from £189,995 to £431,995.
