Around five miles east of the city of London, and one of the capital’s most populous boroughs, Newham has undergone some major changes this century which has brought with it many thousands of brand new homes.
Thanks to massive investment, residential schemes have been complemented by new office and commercial buildings for large and small companies which means thousands of new jobs have been created too. Residents in this area have an impressive range of new, high-quality amenities too, from shopping centres like Westfield to scenic and well-served areas around some of London’s most famous historic docks. There are a great many primary and secondary schools in the borough, an impressive number of which are rated ‘Outstanding’ or ‘Good’ by Ofsted, while for higher and further education, there a handful of colleges and two campuses of the University of East London, near Stratford and Royal Albert Dock.
Transport links are very thorough, allowing easy travel within and outside of the borough. Aside from the host of bus services, there are stations serving several Tube, DLR and National Rail services. The A12, A13 and A406 North Circular are around its borders. This is an exceptionally well-connected area in the western part of the borough, with National Rail, Tube and DLR services. Located midway between Stratford and Canning Town, it’s on the doorstep of two very well served districts and is itself undergoing some major regeneration.
Situated only minutes from the station, TwelveTrees Park is underway from Berkeley Homes and it will be bringing over 3,800 homes as well as a new school, a community centre, office and science space, independent bars, cafés and restaurants, and some 12 acres of open green space, landscaped gardens and a Wi-Fi-enabled park. In the south-eastern corner of the borough, Beckton is next to the River Thames and close to the A13 into Essex, and ExCeL London. The Woolwich Ferry service is also close at hand.
