Keith OsborneEdgbaston is one of the most affluent suburbs of Birmingham, just a couple of miles south of the city centre, which avoided many of the changes created by the Industrial Revolution seen in other districts and preserving it as very much a residential area.
The period homes set in conservation areas here command big prices, making it one of the most expensive places to live outside London. But there are new homes developments in some parts of Edgbaston, many of which involve restoring attractive heritage buildings, often into a range of apartments that combine character with the latest specification standards.
The area is arguably best known for its cricket ground, a frequent host of international matches, but it also has first-class tennis facilities and an exclusive golf club. Edgbaston is also the place to find some of Birmingham’s best restaurants and bars. Leisure time can also be spent at a number of historic buildings, formal gardens, a wildlife conservation park and arts venues. Families will appreciate the range of highly rated state and independent schools here.
