The county town located in the centre of Buckinghamshire, Aylesbury is an historic market town with a current population of over 90,000 in its urban area, with some significant planned development that will attract many more across a wide range of budgets and ages.
Pre-dating the Domesday Book, the town has also played a part in the War of the Roses and English Civil War as well as being a place of exile for King Louis XVIII when Napoleon ruled the First French Empire. In more recent times, it was the birthplace of the Paralympic Games. Its population has grown significantly since the 1960s with people leaving London for the job opportunities of different industries in the area.
Having been granted Garden Town status in 2017, there are plans in place to bring some 16,000 new homes to the area by 2033, along with a host of updated and brand new amenities, infrastructure, and job opportunities, while retaining the character of surrounding villages and the area’s attractive countryside.
Aylesbury’s Friars Square shopping centre and surrounding streets offer a mix of small independent shops, major brands and some large superstores, and there’s a retail park in the north of the town. There’s plenty of leisure and entertainment too, with restaurants, takeaways, pubs, a multiscreen cinema, a theatre, swimming pool and sports clubs.
Aylesbury is highly respected for its ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted-rated grammar schools and other well-rated education at primary, secondary and college levels.
The town is well located with many major towns and cities within a 30- to 40-minute drive – the likes of Milton Keynes, High Wycombe, Oxford, St Albans and Bicester. Aylesbury’s station serves Chiltern Railways and it offers two routes to London Marylebone, both taking around an hour.
For house-hunters considering buying a brand new home in Aylesbury, there are right now a host of options to consider. Any offers, initiatives and assistance schemes mentioned are all subject to terms and conditions.
