Keith OsborneBarratt Developments – a former WhatHouse? Housebuilder of the Year that trades under the Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes brands – has recognised the appeal of three-storey living and offers an array of house types that provide the value and flexibility of a property set over three floors.
Here are some of those currently available at some of its developments in Cambridgeshire. House-hunters should enquire about a host of offers on selected plots, including mortgage or deposit contributions, kitchen and flooring upgrades and the option of Part Exchange.
Cambridge
Both housebuilders are creating new homes in Darwin Green, a development just two miles north west of Cambridge city centre and moments from the major roads to the likes of Huntingdon, St Neots and Newmarket. Among Barratt Homes’ current selection are a few three-storey house types. The ‘Stambourne’ has a starting price of £654,995 and offers 1,165 sq ft. A highlight is the top floor, which is given over to a very spacious principal bedroom with dressing area and en suite. The other two double bedrooms are on the first floor and the kitchen is separate from the living/dining room. The ‘Oakington’, from £699,995, has a similar layout but the bonus of a private car port, over which is a fourth double bedroom. Top-of-the-range is the ‘Girton’ on Plot 199, priced from £709,995. This five-bedroom, three-bathroom house has a southwest-facing garden and a private car port and driveway.
David Wilson has another option here, called the ‘Thorney’. Priced from £689,995 with the offer of a three-year mortgage contribution worth up to £36,000, This home has a kitchen/dining/family room with French doors to the garden, and a dedicated study on the ground floor. There’s a lounge and en suite bedroom on the first floor and the top floor has two more bedrooms and a bathroom.
The ‘Caxton’
Trumpington
Trumpington Meadows, to the south of Cambridge, has been growing for years, set in a country park with a host of its own shops and amenities as well as a guided bus service to the city centre. It’s great success means there’s limited availability now, but for luxurious three-floor living, there are just three houses remaining for sale here. The ‘Caxton’, from £899,995. These high-specification, 1,867-sq-ft properties come in a contemporary design that includes kitchen/dining room with French doors to the garden and double doors to the lounge, and detached double garage which has a private roof terrace. Four of the five bedrooms are doubles, the super-spacious principal bedroom on the top floor coming with dressing room and an en suite bathroom. Bedroom two also has an en suite.
Northstowe
David Wilson Homes is building a range of brand new homes in Northstowe, a large-scale development of a ‘new town’ that could include around 10,000 homes, midway between Cambridge and St Ives. There are apartments and houses for sale in this part of the scheme right now, including a number of three-floor types. From £399,995, the ‘Kennett’ on Plot 109 comes with two private parking spaces a southwest-facing garden. The lounge on the ground floor leads to the kitchen/dining room and all three bedrooms are comfortable doubles, with the top floor dedicated to bedroom one and its en suite. The ‘Cannington’ starts at £449,995: the open-plan kitchen/dining/family room has a breakfast bar and glazed bay to the garden, and a downstairs study. The first floor has a lounge, bathroom and double bedroom, and there are two more bedrooms (one with en suite) on the second floor.
The ‘Brentford’
St Neots
Both Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes are building here at a development called Wintringham, with a host of property types from £360,000 and £445,000 respectively. A new marketing suite opens on Saturday 14 January. The ’Kingsville’ is a very popular house type, from £396,000, with a separate kitchen, a first-floor lounge and a fourth bedroom/study. The ‘Brentford’ starts at £430,000, with open-plan kitchen/dining room, two reception rooms and three double bedrooms. The ‘Hertford’, from £500,000, has a light-filled dual-aspect kitchen/dining room, main bedroom with en suite and dressing area, and a bathroom and top-floor shower room.
Peterborough
Developments in Peterborough offer great value for money, with the advantages of excellent shopping and amenities on the doorstep and superb transport links across the country. To the south of the town, Barratt at Hampton Beach has been selling fast with buyers attracted to the new primary school and nearby shops, leisure facilities and country park. The ‘Hesketh’ has a starting price of £389,995. Set in a quiet cul-de-sac, this house has dual-aspect lounge and kitchen/diner, four double bedrooms (one en suite) and two bathrooms/shower rooms.
