The Northampton division of WhatHouse? Housebuilder of the Year Barratt Developments has proved its commitment to more than just the 799 new homes it built over the last financial year.
At the same time as delivering nearly 800 homes from 1 July to 30 June, a report carried out by Lichfields planning and development consultancy shows Barratt and David Wilson Homes Northampton has contributed over £106million to the economy across a whole range of sectors, says regional managing director Andrew Swindell.
“We are very aware of the pivotal role we play in helping to boost the local economy. We are committed to a strategy that includes leaving a positive and lasting legacy in the communities in which we build homes, be that through job creation, bolstering surrounding businesses or enhancing and protecting the local environment.”
Under the Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes brands, the new homes were built across Northamptonshire, Cambridgeshire, Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire. The report ascertained that these supported over 1,687 jobs directly and through its contractors and suppliers while the housebuilder directly employed 21 new graduates, trainees and apprentices. Hundreds of subcontractors and supply companies were used, and 90% of components used in the construction process were manufactured in the UK.
For local communities, the company planted or retained over 23,318 trees or shrubs on its developments, spent £14.6million on local contributions including the Community Infrastructure Levy and S106 contributions, and put £18million into physical works including highway and environmental improvements and community facilities.
“We are proud to be a major force in the growth and prosperity of our region, and look forward to continuing our work in 2020,” said Swindell.
