One Year On: WhatHouse? Award-Winner Owl Homes

Posted 16 November 2022 by Keith Osborne

Ahead of Friday’s WhatHouse? Awards 2022, we review one of last year’s winners, Tamworth-based Owl Homes…

The prestigious WhatHouse? Awards 2022 Gala Luncheon, recognising the highest achievements in UK housebuilding, takes place on Friday 18 November, and in the run-up to it we are looking back at some of the most successful winners from last year’s event – and today it’s Owl Homes.

The company, still only seven years old, was presented with Bronze in the sought-after Best Small Housebuilder category, seeing off competition from host of contenders from across the country.

The judges recognised that Owl Homes has “a burgeoning reputation across its Midlands heartland for the quality of its design, driven by the influence and passion of its senior management team.”

They were also impressed by the range of homes that the company has built, from one-bedroom apartments and starter homes through to five-bedroom houses, and ambitions to increase its current delivery of under 100 homes per year to around 500 annually in a five-year plan.

It wasn’t just the properties themselves that caught the judges’ attention. “Customer service is a strong suit,” they said, “especially when it comes to explaining the purchasing process to first-time buyers with guides and tips. Community engagement is another key mantra, leaving a legacy imbued with social and environmental responsibility. Owl puts a lot of emphasis on recruitment processes, including apprenticeships and trainees and is already established as a strong voice on industry issues across multiple platforms”

Steve Thompson, managing director for Owl Homes, said of the company’s Awards success: “We are absolutely delighted and honoured to have won the WhatHouse? Best Small Housebuilder Bronze award in our first year of entering. It’s an amazing achievement and accolade to receive, given we’ve only been established for three years. I’m extremely proud of the Owl team and our supply chain, and I would like to thank every single one of them for their support, hard work and commitment during our journey so far. I’d also like to thank our owner, John Evans, for his continued support and investment into the business, which without, none of what we have achieved would have been possible.”

Owl Homes currently has just one home remaining for sale at its The Orchards development is Upton Snodsbury in Worcestershire. It’s also selling fast at its other two live sites, Mary's Meadow in Blackfordby and Earls Place in Desford. Find out more at owlhomes.co.uk.
