One Year On: WhatHouse? Award-Winner London Square

Posted 8 November 2022 by Keith Osborne

The WhatHouse? Awards 2022 event takes place next week, and we’re reviewing major winners from 2021 – today it’s London Square...

London Square is a multiple winner of prestigious WhatHouse? Awards in previous years and at last year’s event it added to its growing collection with a prize for one of its most successful recent developments in the capital.

London Square Bermondsey won a Joint Silver in the Best Apartment Scheme category.

The Awards judges were extremely impressed by what they saw when they visited the scheme, describing it as “a monument to the vibrant area it stands in” and a “showcase scheme in the Old Kent Road Area Action Plan, setting the bar for future regeneration”.

The development, conveniently located for excellent local amenities and transport links, is a mix of renovated and converted heritage buildings alongside sympathetically designed but thoroughly contemporary clocks and townhouses. The warehouse-style homes in the converted former Branston Pickle Factory is seen as the centrepiece of the development.

The judges’ compliments to the architecture was match by their opinion of the interiors. They said: “The homes are exceptionally well designed, with nooks that could easily give way to a home office and generous outside spaces, a rarity in properties so close to the heart of London.”

Just two luxury homes remain for sale at London Square Bermondsey now, starting from £1.498million.

Jo McDonagh, group sales and marketing director, London Square, said of last year’s win: “The Award has certainly been a major selling point to our customers. Our purchasers are thrilled that London Square Bermondsey is an award winner. They have told us that it was the icing on the cake that expert judges were impressed by the entire scheme, praising the exceptional design of the apartments, with 24-hour concierge, on-site gym and food store, and the attractive landscaped setting. It is important to have such an impressive independent endorsement.

“With most residents now living there, they are making the most of the lifestyle on offer in the Bermondsey area, which is good news for local bars, businesses and restaurants. The London Square team were so proud to have won the Silver trophy against incredible competition and delighted with the new addition to the trophy cabinet of more than 50 glittering awards won since the company was established 12 years ago.”
