Sustainability Credentials To Housebuilder’s Current Cambridge Sites

Posted 7 April 2022 by Keith Osborne

Barratt Developments uses a number of sustainability features on its top Cambridgeshire developments...

Barratt Developments – the former WhatHouse? Housebuilder of the Year which sells new homes in Cambridgeshire under its Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes brands – is utilising sustainability features in properties at its best current developments across the county.

At a time when energy bills are rising dramatically, having a home with top sustainable features is important to keep living costs low as well as having a positive impact on the environment. According to Home Builders Federation, a new build property is 65% more energy efficient and roughly 50% cheaper to run per year than a Victorian house of the same style.

The reason behind new build homes being cheaper and greener is due to features such as double glazed windows and doors, efficient boilers, quality insulation and water saving systems.

Barratt Homes’ Trumpington Meadows on Hauxton Road in Trumpington boasts a number of sustainable elements including 100% low-energy LED lighting throughout all properties. As well as this, a proportion of homes at the development will also feature PV panels which will allow for less energy to be used from the National Grid and at some points, even transferred back to the grid by the homeowners.

Barratt and David Wilson Homes have also considered sustainability at their Darwin Green development on Huntingdon Road by offering residents personalised travel plans, travel vouchers, cycle training and free bike hire to support greener methods of transport.

Properties at Barratt Homes’ Romans’ Edge development in Godmanchester can save residents up to 30 litres of water a day per person through having the latest energy and water efficient kitchen appliances and bathroom fittings and fixtures.

Will Phair, sales director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Cambridgeshire, said: “We are delighted to be delivering properties with sustainability in mind to homebuyers across Cambridgeshire, as we feel it is important to do our bit for the environment. As the UK’s largest housebuilder, it is our responsibility to ensure we are helping the environment and our homes across the county will hopefully encourage residents to also get involved and be environmentally friendly.
