The ‘Medway’ is one of two new show homes just opened by multi-award-winning housebuilder William Davis Homes at its Oak Grange development at Littleover, Derby.

A brand-new, traditionally built home, the opulent interior of this gorgeous house cleverly reflects the style and glamour of Art Deco. A bygone age, when jazz, cocktails and movie stars were all the rage − as the world emerged from WWI into an exciting era of motorisation, aeroplanes and vast ocean liners.

Designer Mike Novak of www.edwardthomasinteriors.com said: ‘I wanted to create a modern take on an iconic era using a simple palette of black, burnished gold and shades of grey, with a flash of burnt orange for warmth.

‘Art Deco is very stylised, so I’ve blended clean lines with traditional pieces and combined many of the shapes that were popular − arches and fans − with naturalistic elements like palm leaves. Insects and animals are also part of the mix, reflecting the then new fascination with travel and as a nod to nearby Rolls Royce, one of the bedrooms features some eye-catching memorabilia.

“For me, this is an art-lovers’ home, with decorative pieces ranging from abstract to fashionista – I love the Vogue covers adorning the walls in the hall. It’s the sort of house that can display hints of grandeur without taking itself too seriously, and above all style, comfort and luxury abound. A home to love and be proud of – and drink cocktails in, of course.”

Stepping into the chic fully fitted designer kitchen and dining area, it’s easy to imagine sipping a Manhattan or Singapore Sling, while delicious aromas of exotic foods emanate from the top of the range Smeg appliances in the black/burnished gold, distinctive yet practical kitchen.

Rich textures and fabrics very much set the scene in the spacious lounge, boasting luxurious muted gold palm leaf wallcoverings. Lush burnt orange velvet sofas are set in warm contrast against the plush dove velour floor, while the clean lines of dark wood pieces - including a superb bespoke cabinet trimmed with accentuating pale oak − display a myriad of timeless treasures each adding to the retro narrative.

With an elegant nod to Agatha Christie’s Orient Express, the ‘Medway’’s study is the perfect den. Golden dragonflies stud the wall fascinated by an orb of light, while treasures from exotic climes are displayed in a matt black unit. A sublime mock croc desk is set to inspire – complete with inkwell and pen – and when a powernap is needed, the novelist in you can make the most of the up and over sofa unit and thus refreshed will have no problem getting your latest bestseller off to press.

Medway master bedroomWith four good-sized bedrooms in the new show home, Mike could mix things up without losing sight of his overall theme. Swathed in dark opulence, the principal suite would certainly take centre stage on any movie set, with its Palladian-style burnt orange velvet headboard and sumptuous bedwear, teamed with abstract wallcovering, artwork and glittering chandelier.

The guest bedroom continues to replicate these themes, while the classic ‘boys’ room is home to some fabulous collectables; the mix of colours and splashes of striking graphics in the fourth bedroom give it a truly arty feel.

Spacious and beautifully designed, this exclusive new development of only 85 homes −  in 11 different designs − Oak Grange offers a choice of two-, three-, and four-bedroom new homes, each traditionally built and featuring the attention to detail this 5 Star housebuilder is known for.

Highly commutable, with Derby and Burton upon Trent only 20 minutes away by car, Oak Grange is off Pritchett Drive in this desirable village location. Bordering woodland on the neighbouring golf course and adjacent playing fields, Oak Grange feels very rural, yet is just a short distance from Littleover’s plentiful amenities, including shops, pubs, restaurants, and a swimming pool.

Oak Grange is also in the catchment for Littleover Community School − rated by the government as ‘Outstanding’ – and is within walking distance of the city’s independent schools, namely Derby Grammar School and Derby High School.

From £190,000 William Davis Homes makes moving easy with a range of schemes including Help to Buy, Part Exchange and Assisted Move. You can also add your own personal touches with their bespoke soft furnishings package, ask Fay or Karen for details.
